After a successful run on social media, Boy Deco makes his highly anticipated return with "Honey," a sweet and soothing indie pop single. Blending '70s and '80s retro influences with modern compositions, the LA-based artist delivers a chill vibe with comforting riffs and long, breathy pauses. Owelu Dreamhouse (pronounced Oh-WAY-lew) is a new collaboration from vocalist Nkechi Anele and arranger and multi instrumentalist Nic Ryan-Glenie rekindling the musical relationship they forged in iconic Melbourne soul band Saskwatch. Writing and producing together in collaboration with old and new friends Nkechi and Nic’s new body of work is a sonic combination of cinematic soul, psychedelia, and Afrobeat, weaving through the complexities of cultural ties, gender and identities between generations. The band's namesake is a play on Nkechi’s grandmother's village — Owaelu — in Nigeria; a symbol of Nkechi honouring her ancestry and stepping into a place of heightened authenticity. New single ‘Tourist’ plays into the third-culture kid experience of feeling out of place, whilst musically showcasing the full spectrum of the Owelu Dreamhouse sound. Tourist is released on Thursday 4th September via Hopestreet Recordings.

Tourist opens with a sweeping, evocative melody played by an army of a band - all who happen to be widely active musicians within Naarm/Melbourne’s music community. Woven into the verses are real experiences from abroad, highlighting the profound connections you make when travelling and the sheer excitement of being somewhere new, whilst simultaneously feeling at odds within your own home. “It’s the quintessential third-culture kid experience – a complex inversion of the norm with both its drawbacks and freedoms. Growing up, the constant feeling of difference often carried a heavy resentment. Luckily, my 20s brought the realisation of the sheer beauty in this unique position” says Nkechi. Tourist is driven by polished musicality combined with a searing sense of place and nostalgia, co-produced and engineered by Henry Jenkins (Karate Boogaloo, Surprise Chef, Ella Thompson) and tape-operated by Alex Bennett (Sound Recordings).

Former Saskwatch bandmates, Nkechi and Nic cut their teeth at the helm of the Melbourne soul resurgence, earning a reputation as one of Naarm's most electrifying live acts. Appearing at major festivals across the world (Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe, CMJ, Splendour in the Grass, BluesFest, WOMADelaide, Falls Festival), Saskwatch released four albums, sold out tours and supported Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Maceo Parker, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Earth, Wind and Fire. These vast musical experiences have set Nkechi and Nic in the perfect place to share something new together via Owelu Dreamhouse.
