Hailing from The Tower District in Fresno CA, Jason Merle has been playing records since 1997. After moving to the Bay Area to swim with the big fish, he began to produce and play with some of the incredible DJ’s that saturate the scene in San Francisco and eventually moved back to Fresno where he continued his rise until 2008.
Fast forward a decade after concentrating on fatherhood and he is back at it. Producing tracks and starting his own label 4E&A Records, he is focused and passionate about learning and improving in the studio and playing tracks that honor the past and create visions of the future. He may be a little less intoxicated this time around, but he is just as dizzy in love with house as he was back in the day.

The latest from Not So Fast Records is here and ready to take over dance floors at supersonic speeds. The Envision EP comes from the Fresno, California, mover and shaker Steve Perez, aka P-REZ. With releases on the likes of Denied Music, Whiskey Pickle, and Bounce House, P-REZ returns to his own Not So Fast imprint to lay down more of his potent grooves. Transmitting a funky sound driven by quirky 303-acid action, it’s the type of prime time sound celebrated at P-REZ’s Frisky event, now in its 15th consecutive year of house music hijinks.

“Feel It” opens up the proceedings with a killer rhythm track, a deep, bouncing bass line, strategically placed acid flourishes, and soulful vocal drops. It’s got energy to go. “So Crazy” follows with definite after-hours appeal, intro’ing with a sparse but funky drum track and repeating spoken vocals dipped in reverb. Midway through the acid takes the track in new directions. Lauro Martins (CZ, Audiophile Deep) also contributes a remix for “So Crazy,” bringing the vibe even deeper into underground territories. “That 303” does what it says on the tin, propelled by its acid bass and lead lines alongside trippy percussion effects. P-Rez takes the mic on this one, delivering a cool, rhythmic spoken bit that praises the acid in the house. Four crucial tracks … don’t sleep on the Envision EP!

Rusty's New Downtempo Mix Nov 2020

 Steve Perez, aka P-REZ, began his dj career in late 2000.
 With over 30 years of drumming experience, it didn't
 take him long to learn the ropes, define his sound, and
 build a following in his hometown of Fresno, CA. Many locals remember his party, Frisky, which ran for 15 years where he
 played alongside some giants in the genre. He and his pal Rusty teamed up to form the production
 duo, Dos Banditos, and in 2007 had their first release on
 Fresno label, Le Poop Music.  P-REZ keeps himself busy in the studio more than the booth these days. His work can be heard on labels such as Bounce House Recordings, Blunted Funk, 4E&A Records, Household Digital, and Whiskey Pickle. 
 In 2009, he took the reigns of record label, Not So Fast Records, keeping a schedule of releases keep the underground sound alive.
