BIO:

HYPERKARMA—the DJ alias of Minneapolis’s Jennifer Waege—knows from dark music. A regular at two of the Twin Cities’ most notable club nights, Dark Energy and Gothess, she began spinning in 2003: “Industrial, noise, ambient, goth, new wave, powernoise, stuff on the darker end of the spectrum,” she says, usually between bands for shows she promoted in Reno. When she moved back to the Twin Cities in 2014, she figured on DJing less, until receiving an invitation to play at a hot new Minneapolis party called Dark Energy—her debut was in 2016—where the DJs blended “that old school industrial sound” Hyperkarma loved with techno.

 

“It was an event that I was really digging,” she says. “The dark beacon of techno was calling my name and I didn’t even realize it was out there, you know? It was an immediate attraction: ‘Oh my god, you can play both of them together?!’”

For this mix, Hyperkarma has delved into straight-up techno. “Getting involved in the techno lifestyle—it was like jumping into the deep end of the pool. And I decided to swim. Nobody pushed me. I jumped into this willingly. This is the music that speaks to me. This music has changed me. Finding techno was like coming home to me.”

Można powiedzieć, że świeża krew na scenie elektronicznej, lecz jednocześnie to doświadczony zawodnik za deckami. Jest miłośnikiem winyli, a każdy jego występ intryguje i sprawia, że chcesz jeszcze WIĘCEJ. Porywał tłumy podczas ogromnej ilości eventów w ciągu ostatnich dwóch lat. Instytut Rave Arena, Wisłoujście, Project Masow Art & Music Camp, to tylko niektóre z imprez na których zatrząsnął parkietem. Jest również stałą częścią imprez spod szyldu DUEL.

Artists presented in this series have been working with us on various events under the lightning banner. They have made their mark with incredible skills and music selection, which you'll be able to experience listening to these sets ⚡️

The third artists in the series is PAWEL 🖤  

PAWEL, you can say an arist-enigma. He is unconventional, unique and you cannot put a label on him. Works incredibly hard and is constantly getting involved in various projects. He was born in Bydgoszcz but you can hear people talking about him in the furthest corners of Poland. You may know him from your favourite clubs or from his modeling side, as a MISBHV fashion show debutante. 

You can say that he is a fresh face on the music scene, but behind the decks he behaves like a true professional. He is a vinyl enthusiast and each of his sets leaves the audience intrigued and begging for MORE. He swept up the crowds during a vast number of events throughout the past two years. Instytut Rave Arena, Wisłoujście, Project Masow Art & Music Camp are just a few amongst many shows that he rocked. He is also an integral part of the DUEL parties. 
He is fascinated by cycling.

Instytut presents: PAWEL

Berlin-based DJ BB Deng was born in Hong Kong and raised in Taiwan. She started her music career playing in rock bands and was a resident DJ in clubs in Taipei. In 2004 she moved to Beijing for her Film study, but she didn't let go her passion for music and in 2008 she opened a club named "The Boat" - a real boat that combines live performances, DJ parties and film screenings. She later joined China's first electronic music label "Acupuncture Records" and helped organize countless parties, including the famous INTRO electronic music festival. In 2016 she got signed with the British electronic music equipment brand Novation as its first Taiwanese ambassador. In the same year, she joined the family of Chinese booking agency Modernsky, and began touring festivals and clubs around the world, from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mongolia to Germany, Holland, Switzerland, France, Croatia, Austria, Finland, Poland and Spain.
In 2018, Deng BB started releasing her own techno productions. From German labels - Sound of Berlin, Kuukou Records, Be Sure, Fehler Musik, Electrotribe - to other national labels such as Reload Black label (Spain), Blackat Label (Miami), Minitech (Amsterdam), Set of the day (Switzerland), ABC boyler coalition (Italy) to Fallen Angel (USA) and Industrial girls (Colombia).
In 2019, she moved to Berlin to continue her performance and production work.

Today we have a pleasure to host Dtekk. 
Dtekk is a real one-man institution of the Polish electronic music scene: a DJ, a promoter and a cultural activist. He started mixing in 2000, and since 2001 he has been a DJ resident in the legendary, long-running  Metro club in Bialystok. 

His vinyl-only sets represent a wide cross-section of the best in techno music: from Chicago via Detroit to Berlin and London and beyond. He is also a fan of electro, disco and italo, has a large collection of records in these genres. Dtekk co-creates the collective Technosoul since its inception and is one of the fathers of its success: numerous events with key artists from around the world and the recent expansion of the collective activities as a record label. 

The most important achievement for Dtekk seems to be Up To Date Festival (www.uptodate.pl) - which he is the main head of, serving as the main producer, strategist, promoter and artistic director. The festival gathers a reasonable number of people each year and is the most important event of that kind in eastern Poland. As if that was not enough Dtekk stands for the multi-annual events, such as Ambient Park, Secret Location and Kitsch’n’Electricity which are key elements of the local scene in Bialystok. A very important aspect of Dtekk's work is a social activism in favor of music and (widely defined) culture – he works in Social and Cultural Emergency association and manages Transborder Cultural Center "Węglowa". He has also organized public workshops for DJs, where he spreads his love for vinyl among young people

Ireen has released on labels as diverse as Instruments of Discipline, Tales Collective, Metempsychosis Records and KOMBINAT.  

She defines music as a liberation of emotions and expression of her state of mind. For this reason, every single composition represents a different journey driven by these motives, keeping a distinct sound without conforming to particular styles.
