In a time where electronic music gets harder and faster each day, Berlin-based duo Brigade‘s debut album „Hard Times, Soft Music“ reclaims easy listening as a badge of honour. Being released on the 14.10.2022, the record is a meticulously calibrated work of room temperature, a home cooked meal between friends or a warm sonic blanket that tugs you in after a rainy day. Pushing their club roots to the side, Brigade‘s debut album confidently sits between ambient, house and hip hop. „We took the pandemic as a cue to take a break from dancefloor productions and play around with different genres and production styles.“ The first single „International Communication™“ showcases that breadth and introduces an album pretty much anyone in the post-Shrek cultural landscape could agree on. Basically, if you appreciate a good hug, chances are you‘ll enjoy this LP.

The sixth vinyl release from Manjumasi is a proper dance floor offering from label co-founder atish, featuring two originals built around smoky samples that evoke the basement club vibes of yesteryear. First up is He’s Gone with an irresistible vocal and a hooky groove. Second is title track Birdland with a warped sax sample carrying the track onwards. On the B-side are a pair of groove-forward remixes of Birdland. Steve O’Sullivan offers up a dubby minimal interpretation that takes the tune’s elements in a more hypnotic direction. Zone+ explores a floatier melodic realm, letting the saxophone waft above a bouncy rubber bassline.

Dimensions is a compilation series focused on bringing together unique artists and select tracks, which resonate with each other beyond just the sound of the music. It is a platform to create forward thinking releases on which artists in the XYZ family, and newcomers with shared values, come together to write their chapter of a collective story.

The second installment of the Dimensions welcomes a set of diverse characters into the XYZ fold. The trio of groove-laden tracks nudges the listener towards the darker and colder months ahead, yet retains a warm fall aura as well. Progressive arrangements with hearty basslines and melodic flair are key pillars of the release, with both stalwarts of the scene and up-and-comers sharing their prowess for dancefloor-oriented material.

Leading the Dimensions charge is a crucial figure in the journey of the deep and progressive scene. Pablo Bolivar has been at the forefront of the dance music for over 20 years, with a distinguished melodic, hypnotic, and intriguing brand of production. XYZ fans will be familiar with previous appearance on the label - his pristine remix of Budakid’s Senlin. We couldn’t be happier to have the Spaniard back, this time in the company of American duo Emanate. Bolivar and Emanate have created a rich working relationship, and return for their second collaboration in the form of Alchemize. A delicate kick through the intro gives way to a haunting bassline, culminating in a mellow groover with various melodic entracements. Alchemize perfectly sets the mood for Dimensions II, with its soft and tactile qualities leaving the listener primed for the journey.
