Here's my opening set at legendary DIY club and Berlin underground staple Jonny Knüppel in Prenzlauer Berg. Despite some awful mixes I'm so happy about how this selection came out, because, you never know what you're gonna play at an opening set but honestly it's what I feel like playing anywhere and anytime right now. Born in Medellín, Colombia, Daniel Tobón, also known as Alfa Hz, has been drawn to and influenced by minimalist rhythms since 2006, represented at the time by artists such as Marco Carola, Marc Houle, John Acquaviva, Tom Dazing, Harri Axt, Miro Pajic, and Tiefschwarz.
In 2010, he began his journey in music production alongside his partner and colleague Andrés Galeano, experimenting with his own sounds and fusing genres he enjoyed, such as Minimal and Jazz.
Six years later, he decided to embark on a new path with members of the Envigado-based music collective Otra Parte Records, initiating the creation of the label and collective Minemal Records, which would later become a home for other underground artists in the city of Medellín.
ALPHA HZ has always been immersed in the city's most underground sounds. Currently, his sets are filled with Minimal, Microhouse, Microminimal, Rominimal, Deep House, and Deep Techno, always maintaining his signature hypnotic style. His performances have taken him to renowned clubs in the city, such as Club 1984, Petrona Disco, La Mansión Club, and Xplicit Club, among others.
He has also shared the stage with major national artists like Sonic, Alexandria, Morris, and Christopher.
He currently lives in Malaga, Spain and heads his label MINEMAL RECORDS where he works on new productions with his colleagues. His latest EP, Imagi-Nation, consists of two tracks with minimalist essences and deep techno.
