Sadly, it didn't quite make cut to get on the anniversary release but I had a ton of fun working on this and figured I'd share... Here it is folks, I give you "SunBurns"... A fun little diddy I started about a month ago after watching a terrifically eye opening video from Ken Hiwatt Marshall, check out his YouTube channel: it's fantastic! I fully intended to do vocals for this one, and still do, but writing lyrics is a terribly slow process for me so, they will come when ready.  

But I'm very excited about this one as it is (cringe) my first passable dabble in Mastering myself... So I'm putting it out there & I'm very interested in your thoughts on how it sounds! So please... sit back, relax. enjoy! There is no SPF where you're going! ;P

Here is my submission for the Cats on Synthesizers in Space Producer Competition. I started this from scratch on 8/2/2019. I was noodling around pointlessly in my lil studio, wondering what to do next, when inspiration fell from the sky in the form of a facebook post from COSIS announcing this contest. I, not being much of a contest type of dude, downloaded the samples to just have some fun and play with cat sounds for an afternoon, for lack of better ideas. But somehow, despite me constantly laughing my ass off, something pretty cool started to come together. Then During a break I wondered if I could find some good vocal samples, and stumbled first click onto this adorable short cartoon called Millions of Cats. My jaw dropped, to me this was a friggin gold mine of purrrfect samples! So many things just kept falling into place. After that I knew it was my destiny. I did not choose to make this song, it chose me to make it. And when I was done, with a resounding meow, it said share me with the world! So... Here it is - Bad Machine "Millions of Cats" 

The entire song is all Cat samples from the pack provided, with the exception of the main bass line in the chorus, and one bell-type arpeggiated synth that pops in and out a couple times. The drums I started to do with all cat sounds, but the feel just wasn't right, so I replaced them with regular drums, but kept the lil kitten sneeze HighHats as the main HH line throughout the song. The rest of it is all Cats, cut up, manipulated and drenched in effects... In a nice way though :)

Millions of Cats

The newest single from Bad Machine, "Rumination," has just landed on earth!

This song started out over fifteen years ago as a jam session with my good friend and musical wiz kid, Matthew Marti. Just a couple of old Korg drum machines, a sampler, and two guys who love to destroy sound.

All these years later, every time I go to start another project, I think about this loop we jammed on & how much I wanted to flesh this out into an actual song. But every time I went at it, I just couldn't figure out which direction to go. 

So this time, I decided to go in all of them. It's a funky lil' jam to get your ass shaking. Junk-Punk, Glitch-Funk, Industrial Hardcore -  guaranteed to make your ears wet!

AdRift is a track I made with the very talented Shannon Nauss (bass) in Jan-2019, actually the very first release by Bad Machine. I never felt like the mastering I did at the time really did the song justice, so recently I decided to return to this track and restart the mixing from scratch. This song is like my white whale though, when it comes to mastering... so when my buddy Mike Taylor offered to help, I jumped at the chance. And what a fantastic and invaluable job he did! Set yourself AdRift and enjoy the new & improved ear candy :)

BAD MACH|NE - Industrial, Soundscape, Experimental, Electronic IDM, Digital Hardcore, Pit-farts on a snare drum... Whatever you wanna call it, Bad Machine is a story of audio terrorism expressed through sound. The songs are meant to be interpreted and internalized through the listener, rather than being strictly defined by the artist. In other words, there are very few words... 

There are also no expensive leather fashion statements, no boring four on the floor hook-beats, no public relations strategies, and no fucking neon dreadlocks! This is an experiment in storytelling through sound and sample. An act of colorful self defense against a grey and indifferent universe.
