Riva Starr arrives with his new EP Freedom in true Riva style, with each of the three tracks sampling tastes from three different flavours of music. Released on June 29th, Freedom provides a varied musical experience and a vibe that changes from track to track. The first collaboration on the EP is with Ramon Tapia, whose musical mission is to make people move. Freedom is definitely a groover, mixing up a steady beat with trumpets and steel drums, reflecting the exciting sounds of Brazilian carnivals. Both the dub mix and the original are prepared with a tasty dose of bass. Rockin On Swing introduces the MC skills of Trigganom for the second collab on the EP. Riva has infused relaxed vibes with a higher bpm and energetic, with unwinding sounds blended over a pulse to get your batty shaking. In the final collaboration with Dolomite, Be Your Best slows down the tempo with some old-skool beats. Super catchy and a definite stand-out track. Freedom is loaded with new ideas, fresh experiments and unexpected collaborations, each one a reminder of Rivas consistent curiosity and unpredictable style.

Jem Atkins delivers his second EP for Magnetic Recordings, following the August 2012 release of 'Pushin On' which featured remixes from DJ Sneak, DJ Mes and Darius Syrossian. The 'Up & On EP' sees Jem flying solo with a wide ranging 4 tracker that covers gritty, bass-driven and jazzy, jacking House to filtered disco reminiscent of the golden era of French House.

Based in Walsall, just outside Birmingham in the UK, Jem Atkins was active on the UK DJ circuit in the second half of the 1980's and 90's. Primarily a turntablist with roots in Funk, Soul and Hip Hop, he migrated to House music playing clubbing institutions such as Ministry Of Sound, Cream and Godskitchen, launching his own Havana Records and releasing on Fabric, Soulfuric and Back2Basics. Rediscovering his passion for making House records at the start of 2012, Jem has had an active year with releases for Magnetic ("it was one of those labels that had that BBoy flavour and it was always my goal to get something released, plus DJ Sneak is a big inspiration"), alongside Guesthouse, Erase, Arthouse and Jack Locker.

Another standout track from the recent Sunburst Band album is the boogiefied house cut ‘Definition of Luv’ featuring Diane Charlemagne. 

Rising star Sean McCabe once again comes through with a brilliant remix adding his trademark deep and soulful house sound using Diane’s vocals to great effect. His Main mix is one for the soulful house heads while his Definition of Dub goes a bit deeper and dubby.

As always Joey Negro turns in his own extended album mix and Dubstrumental stretching out the original making the most of the 80's style synth parts.

This new track from Akabu features the soaring neo soul croons of Alex Mills (who you might recognize from Miguel Campbell's ‘Something Special’).

The Joey Negro Strip Mix is unashamedly feel-good with its bouncing, skewed and spraying synths and driving bassline, with pristine production putting many imitators to shame.

The Akabu Warehouse Mix is built on chunky drums and classic claps before rave indebted synths swoop into the mix. Building the tension slowly, the whole thing comes alive with a bobbling bassline and the carefully chopped and spliced diva vocals of Miss Mills.

Yet another timeless and easy to love offering from the studio of Dave Lee.
