I control filters and grain delays with an eight triangular-sided custom wooden box, housing an industrial joystick, so the eye can see what the ear can hear.

Pete 'Padre' Lazonby LIVE @ Grey Area 02-12-23

A mountain top forest in the north east of Taiwan hosts an annual gathering.

Mostly dipping into a vast 2023 archive of soon to be released tunes made with Italian individualist Davide 'Bar.ba' De Michele.
Here presented exactly as it happened in pristine 24bit audio. Every tune is its own distinct world. Made to be familiar without cliché.

The tranquility energy paradox is my distant, unattainable goal. Old knowledge from indigenous roots and pre 20th century musical forms. A party music for the 2020s which brings inspiration and peace with its animal energy. An attempt to access forces way bigger than us; to try to provide glimpses of who we are and where we find ourselves.

Midnight, high above Taipei I did this show for the great Temple Meltdown crew. I always farm the tranquility / energy paradox, but this set gradually focuses increasingly on inner peace, the currency of the location, right up to the period of silence near the end when I played my bell live with no microphones to hear it, allowing it to decay to silence each time. Following that, the final two numbers are my latest reinventions with Barba: Supine Palm and Because One Must.

At an intimate boutique gathering high in the mountains above Hsinchu, Taiwan, Pete “Padre” Lazonby delivered a rare live set of all-original, mostly unreleased material. Among its highlights are unique live renditions of Selva and Mitosis from his recent Isolate release, ISO043 with Bar.ba.
Performing with an industrial joystick encased in a handcrafted, eight-sided wooden console, Lazonby translates filter sweeps into a visual spectacle - letting the audience see the movement of sound as vividly as they hear it.
The journey flows seamlessly from 138 to 122 BPM, maintaining a serene, meditative undercurrent even as its existential midsection pulses with dark, electrifying energy.

In his own words, PADRE aka Pete Lazonby describes the set as follows:

"In November 2020, doing a show or being able to go out clubbing was only possible in a few countries including Taiwan. Just 80 miles from China, an island of 23.5 million people has had fewer than 1000 Covid cases and only 7 deaths in total.

PADRE (live) @ A Big Hug in Taipei, recorded live on November 21st 2020, is a set which plays on its contrasts. When the mood changes everyone feels the shift. This creates unity in the room. Why not maximise those occasions? Doing so with good continuity is easier with a live set than DJing."
