For Interscapes 08 we welcome Alex Troubetzkoy - the now Paris-based DJ, producer and head honcho of the Pocket Club label - to lay down his pocket of influences over a one hour mix full of versatility and heaps of blues. Francesco Farfa is widely recognised as a symbol of Italian club culture and a benchmark to a generation of diggers and DJs. In a pre-globalised DJ scene, he was one of the few exports playing far and wide, pushing the later coined Progressive sound.

He has DJ'd through four decades, from playing proto-house, new beat and hip house in the late 80s to becoming the emblem of the north Italian progressive "Sound Of Tirreno" scene of the 90s.

Here is a glimpse into what Farfa was up to in 1994.

Ismael Zouaoui lives and breathes music between Switzerland and Berlin. He spends his days in his studio, making complex electronic music that incorporates intricate drum patterns, diverse sampling techniques, multiple layers and textures. Exploring sounds and ideas from different eras, his music is contemporary, playful, distorted, 3-dimensional, fat, and clean.

3rd Hour - ISH (live)

Alejandro Romero who released on the label last year offers a trip-hop mix under his Alias Ópalo.

Ópalo is an Ecuadorian project which tends to produce in an experimental way, using drum machines, keyboards and synthesizers. The imagination comes from the history of a wolf who denies to be part of the system he is imposed on.

Ópalo’s first impression with the alias was to be more conceptual and in the process he realized a history was being told. It gives place to music he has loved since college, like Massive Attack, Tosca or Kruder & Dorfmeister.

The idea behind the mix is to put together the most representative tunes of the trip-hop genre. Especially the kind of music released in the 90’s. The selection tends to tell a story of danger and romance. Also its rhythm is influenced by Jamaican sounds, dub, reggae and elements from the hip hop scene like scratching vinyl sounds. The interesting part of the sound is that it’s very futuristic even though it’s kind of old school.

‘’My productions can’t emulate the sound of the 90’s ,but I think they’re very influenced by them.’’ says the artist.
