PremEar: Mene, Misha - Check My Flow [PKD014]

An icy wind blows from the Balkans as two cold & talented artists join forces for their Pakate debut. With an impressive combined streak of releases on labels like Desolat, Hottrax, Take Notes, and Tamango, to name a few, Serbian powerhouses Mene and Misha sat in the studio for "Ground Shaker" EP, and the result perfectly fits with the title meaning. On the lead track, the pairs provide a hefty, rumbling track that punishes the listener with its vibrant energy, pushing percussion to the forefront alongside playful, scattering vocals and booming bass tones, whilst "Check My Flow" brings deeper rhythms, minimal grooves, and sinister plucks synths. Closing the EP in style, Mene's solo "Somewhere In Between" dives underneath, winding through esoteric-ish chants, pulsating yet mental rhythms, and wailing atmospheres.

Pakate ends the year with the return of a familiar face, Ssero. The Barcelona-based young gun has been under our radar for a while now - and his debut track on this year's annual Miami VA was a statement to his sound: groovy, infectious, bouncy and meticulously crafted. His comeback EP is no exception. After meeting in the Marina studios ensemble with the boss Jean Pierre - who's now set up his new basement in the Catalan's capital - he realized it was about time for a follow-up. The Spaniard is now about to drop "Sateo" EP, a two-tracker EP in line with the label's always innovative and fresh sound, which also comes packed with a remix by a real Spanish veteran in Hector Couto, who takes the lead track to a whole new heavy-hitting groovier level with fat drums and heavy basslines.

Jean Pierre Live from Paradise at Space Miami (Art Basel 2024)

Returning two years after his debut on the label, Tyron Amory is ready to bring back the fire to Pakate with his newest One Day EP. After hitting the stores in 2023 with one of our most successful releases so far, which ended up sitting in the #1 Minimal / Deep Tech charts on Beatport, the British producer is back with four skippy and driving, certified head-bopping originals. Opening up with the title track, One Day has been a secret weapon of Marco Carolas set for a while now, a luscious techy and funk-laced dancefloor classic that blends together catchy lyrics of Rockobandz and KE4T, tight grooves and full-bodied low endz. On Lejla, the Birmingham-based talent goes for another solid club jam infused with ethnic chants and raw UK energy, while Sunrise goes towards deeper, after-hours scenarios with mellow stabs and bubbling percussions. In closing cut Theatre, Tyron once again opts for stripped-back club music, layering warped vocals with pulsating basslines and crazy horns.

Turning back has never been an option. With a career that transcends decades, continents, and genres, Jean Pierre returns with his second solo album called 'No Turning Back'.

Pakate Records' nineteenth release signifies a real milestone in Jean Pierre's career. It coincides with his 40th birthday, celebrating a path born in New York, Miami and now Barcelona, where the 11 tracks have been written and produced. After his debut album on Nervous in 2013, the Colombian artist felt the need to put together years on the road and in the studio between parties, records, and live jam sessions into a project that embodies his biggest passion, music, which never made him lose his way. 

Techno, house, and minimal are blended together with rich breakbeat loops, rumba rhythms, and hip-hop sounds into an 11-track ode to JP's endless influences and contaminations. Featuring collaborations with close friends Natalia Roth, Daniel Orpi, Zamoras, and a first-time appearance on Pakate by Bodeler, Jamie Coins, Hanie, and Casas, the album perfectly represents not just JP's musical ethos but his approach towards life, friends, and society: a meeting point, and never a turning point.
