I used the song She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5 as a reference. This song did remind me a bit of the song Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode.
I used 4 channels for the lead. Which are a strat guitar, 2 bell like instruments and a muted guitar. At the last moment I added Tape Strings and did that volume thing with it. This where it goes up and down in a beach wave style.

My discovery was that to feel comfortable is to have making funny and serious voices go easier.

Just let your voice do something randomly and go through with it. See what it does. Relax and tweak.
