On the first compilation for his own Agogo Records label Sono Rhizmo collected fi fteen tracks from as many countries he has travelled during the past few months. What we hear is a mix of conscious global beats, social soul and true rhythms, never overtly political but always aware of local matters and global changes. „Agogo Makes The World Go Round“ is a statement of independence, a plea to dig deeper beyond the surface.

Akalé Wubé are the hardest working band on the Ethio-Jazz scene in France today. For seven years they've been hitting the stage with an impressive regularity, all over Europe, Asia and Africa. Their music — half original songs, the other half covers of Ethiopian classics and traditional tunes from the 60s and the 70s — has been growing, expanding and maturing into a unique Ethiopian groove of their own. Next week they'll be playing at the Pan Piper in Paris, with famous Malian musician, vocalist, arranger and composer Cheick Tidiane Seck as their guest. French Ethio-jazz band Arat Kilo will be opening. It'll be on saturday, october 17th. We've said it before, but save the date!

Grant Phabao is the unstoppable producer behind the Paris DJs sound. Over nearly two decades of superb music-making, he grew to be a prime purveyor of Jamaican Soul, wether labeled "ska", "rocksteady", "reggae", etc. After releasing albums with reggae icons Carlton Livingston, The Lone Ranger, The Jays or The Silvertones, and remixes for the whole planet, from George Clinton to Alice Russell, from David Byrne to Shawn Lee, from Jurassic 5 to The Beta Club… he started producing African music, working with the likes of Ebo Taylor, Franck Biyong, musicians from Fela's Afrika 70 or Egypt 80, from Antibalas, from The Souljazz Orchestra, or from Brownout, just to name a few.
With the Paris DJs label, he managed to cross the rigid boundaries of music categorization with an astonishing quantity of high-quality productions and remixes in many styles, achieving a high-order mastery in reggae, ska and afrofunk…

While discussing the possibility of releasing Akalé Wubé's sax & flute player Etienne de la Sayette's solo recordings on Paris DJs, the idea of getting Grant Phabao to put to good use his reggae-remixing skills on one of Akalé Wubé's songs arose quickly. But what about the Ethiopian horn or vocal harmonies, would they fit on a reggae groove? Well you can't really know until you try, so that's exactly what happened.

The song picked is the delighful 'Alègntayé', extracted from the band's latest album, 'Sost'. It's a tune originally written by Ayaléw Abbèbè and Tesfayé Abbèbè, arranged by Mulatu Astatqé and made famous by Pan-Ethiopian singer Tlahoun Gèssèssè. Akalé Wubé covered it with radiant Ethiopian singer Genet Asefa on vocals. Now Grant Phabao takes the tune all the way to Kingston, Jamaica — via Addis-Abeba, Ethiopia and Paris, France. It's gonna be hard to make a groove more global than that. And guess what? The resulting blend, unheard before, works like a charm! Ethio-reggae. What's next?

The Bas Lexter Ensample ist zurück. ‘Tres Greatful Amigos’ ist das 3te Album des in Hannover ansässigen Multi-instrumentalisten, DJs und Produ-zenten Ricci Puncha, welcher der Mann hinter diesem Projekt ist. Was sonst könnten wir sagen? Diese Platte bereitet einem einfach gute Laune. Wieder Mal bietet Bas Lexter uns seine großartige Spieltart zwischen 50iger bis hin zu 70iger Themen an, die in gewohnter Manier mit modernen, swingenden Beats, jazzigen Meldodien und Einflüssen, sowie mit vielen knisternden Soul Samples garniert sind.

‘DJ Cuzcos Revenge’ eröffnet das Album mit einem atmosphärischen Feeling, das einen an den Eröffnungstitel eines alten Alfred Hitchcock Streifens denken lässt, der auf einen 90iger DJ mit echten ‘Scratchskills’ trifft. Bas öffnet uns von der ersten Minute an die Türen in sein musikalisches Universum. Der zweite Titel ‘Sweetback Fresh Out Da Jack’ ist eine ‘dicke’ ‘Rare Groove’ Nummer mit wunderbaren Bläser- und Strecherlinien unterlegt und einem Oldschool MC, der seine Rhymes über eine Menge positiver Energie fließen lässt. Man würde am liebesten nach Jamaika fliegen nachdem man die ‘heiße Sommernacht’ Reggae Nummer ‘Lonley Feeling (Rocking Night)’ gehört hat. Der Track ist schlicht und ergreifend eine Perle von einem Underground Reggae Titel. Ebenso wie ‘Blessings’, welches eine Remix Adaption von Aaron Bingle’s ‘Can You Hear Me Now’ ist, hier in einer ‘rootsigen’, energetischen und leichtfüssigen Retro-interpretation. Was mehr braucht man mehr um ein Bas Lexter Album zu machen? Jazzy Swings? Diese werden mit ‘Dickie’s Freestyle Mambo’ und dem percussionlastigen Titel Voo-doo King serviert. Auf der Uptempo Seite haben wir authentische Breakbeats mit dem B-Boy Track ‘Blendsfield’. Bas wäre nicht Bas, würde er uns nicht für einen Moment in die Gefilde der ‘Latin’ Musik entführen. Mit ‘No Te Meta’, ‘Me La Llevo’ und der Easy Listening Nummer ‘Bá!’ kommt er unseren Freunden auf der Süd-Amerikanischen Seite des Globus entgegen. Er spielt seine melancholischen Gitarren- und Pianolinien über wunderbar rhythmische und treibende Latinobeats. Auf der Soulseite haben wir tiefe und langsame Soultracks wie ‘Wassup’ und ‘The 4th Take’, die einen an die guten alten ‘Marvin Gaye’ Zeiten erinnern. Mit ‘Jane C’, ‘Last Time Last Chance’ und ‘Follow You’ beendet Bas sein Album in einer traditionellen Manier mit etwas Downbeat ‘Freshness’. Titel die sich von der ersten Minute anhören, als ob man sie schon immer kennen würde und als ob sie schon immer da gewesen wären.

‘Tres Greatful Amigos’ ist wie ein Statement bezüglich der nun insgesamt drei erschienen Bas Lexter Alben. Sie sind allesamt ‘Amigos’, es gibt` drei oder ‘Tres’ von ihnen und wir sind dankbar – ‘Greatful’ bei Deja-Tunes, dass wir mit dieser tollen Musik arbeiten dürfen.

The Bas Lexter Ensample is back. ‘Tres Greatful Amigos’ is the 3rd album of the Hanover based multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Ricci Puncha, who is the guy behind the project. What can we say? This record will make you having an uplifting time. Again Bas Lexter provides the finest mixture between 50ies to 70ies music styles, combined with his modern swinging beats, jazzy influenced melodies and many sizzling, soulful samples.

‘DJ Cuzcos Revenge’ introduces the record with an atmospherically feeling, reminding in the opener of an old Alfred Hitchcock movie, meeting up with skillful early-90ies Dj cuts. Bas opens up the doors into his universe of music from the first minute on. The second title ‘Sweetback Fresh Out Da Jack’ is a heavy ‘Rare Groove’ track with amazing string- and hornworks and an Oldschool MC who is flowing with his rhymes over a lot of positiv energy. The ‘hot-summer-night’ Reggae tune ‘Lonley Feeling (Rocking Night)’ simply is a pearl of an underground Reggae music title that makes you want to buy a ticket and fly to Jamaica and get deeper into their Reggae music culture. Just like ‘Blessings’ which is a remix adaptation from Aaron Bingle’s ‘Can You Hear Me Now’ – in a rootsy, easy sounding and energizing retro-interpretation. What more does it take to make a Bas Lexter album? Jazzy swings? They are being served with ‘Dickie’s Freestyle Mambo’ and the percussion weighted track Voo-doo King. On the uptempo side we have some authentic Breakbeats coming with the B-Boy track ‘Blendsfield’. Bas would not be Bas if he would not lead us into the fields of Latin music for a moment. With ‘No Te Meta’, ‘Me La Llevo’ and the Easy Listening tittle ‘Bá!’ he is satisfying our friends on the South-American side of the globe. Sweet, melancholic guitars and piano melodies are running over his swinging and powerful latino rhythms. On the ‘souldside’ we have the deep and slow soultracks ‘Wassup’ and ‘The 4th Take’, reminding a bit in the good old ‘Marvin Gaye’ times. With ‘Jane C’, ‘Last Time Last Chance’ and ‘Follow You’, Bas is finishing the album in a traditional manner with some downbeat freshness, sounding like these perfect tracks you would know since ever and which have always been there.

‘Tres Greatful Amigos’ is like a statement regarding the 3 albums Bas has done so far. They are all ‘Amigos’, it`s three or ‘Tres’ of them and we are ‘Greatful’ at Deja-Tunes to being able to work with this great music.

The Bas Lexter Ensample - Lonley Feeling (Rocking Night)

Born in 1974 and raised in Egion where he started working as a dj at the age of fourteen.
In parallel to djing, he delves into production as an artist and co founder of Cast-a-Blast in 2006. Along with Blend Mishkin he forms the duet Palov and Mishkin, launching the compilation “Backslam Extravaganza” (2007). They then went on to release the widely praised album “Think Twice” (2009) while at the same time remixing and editing for highly acclaimed labels such as G.A.M.M., Rebtuz,  Resense, Bastard Jazz, Tru Thoughts ,Love Monk etc.
Since then Palov went on to release his debut solo “Whats That” revealing the smooth musicianship between him and the guitarist player Angelos Angelides. Within as well outside the framework of this partnership he forged production and remixing collaborations with several artists including Caro Emerald , Mo’ Horizons, Lady Faye ,Maraveyas Illegal, Daniela Bolano, Kill Emil and BNC.Nowdays he’s collaborating with Panama Cardoon and together they’re running a label called Carnibal.
Actively djing all this time he has shared the decks with well known djs/producers like Quantic, Andy Smith, Bonobo, Nickodemus ,Lack of Afro ,Florian Keller, Jon Kennedy ,Henry Storch ,Ben Lamdin ,7Samurai, Herbaliser ,Tm Juke , Mo’Horizons , Rob Luis  to name a few.
