As part of the process of exploring our relationship with this project, we put together a mix built around some own the concepts and inspirations behind Omura. Tunes that inspired us, in their original form, or reworked and reinterpreted to better reflect the way we channelled each other’s idea through the creative ecosystem that grew out of the album. 

The ecosystem represents a realm of pure creativity where ideas exist, on their own terms. They are there for anyone to discover but to do so, we need to step out of our usual patterns and spaces to find them. Omura was our guide to this realm and our guide once we had found it.

Divided into four sections, roughly corresponding to the different ecosystems Omura helped us to explore, the mix was initially performed live on the same mixing desk the album was built with in Hackney, before being bounced down and sent over to Bristol for further manipulation and processing. At each stage, further layers of texture and creative degradation was incorporated, mirroring the way we distorted and recontextualised each other’s musical ideas as we bounced files between our studios.

As usual, this show goes across the spectrum of styles.  I started out on the drum and bass tip but soon the jungle pulled me back in.  Moving through some newly unearthed tunes from '94 and sandwiched by current ragga tunes that carry the same '94/'95 torch, the vibes kept riding for the first half of the show.  Followed by some dancefloor friendly heat, we eventually land in more intelligent / atmospheric territory before going back to '93 vibes complete with pianos, 4x4 beats, and darkside energy. This new EP starts with the angelic intro of Sonder that springs to life with empyreal beats and driving bass as it builds into another atmospheric odyssey. Spacecaked keeps the beautiful breakbeat work and layers it with pads, keys and infectious stabs throughout. Serene is another trip through paradise as rolling breaks and uplifting pads perfectly compliment the evolving melodies that swirl effortlessly to life. Spark begins with light pads, discreet bass stabs and a sprinkle of soulful melodics before strings and oldskool breakbeats bound into being and offer another journey through layers of pleasing harmonies. The EP ends on Unshakeable a stunning musical tale peppered serenely with delicate piano, soaring pads and chopped breaks to create a wonderful closing piece.
