LCY's mix references UK club music's past, yet also drives forward into the future, in the way that it fluidly weaves together experimentation and their percussive sound. Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I would describe myself as a kind but firm black aspiring farmer with no thoughts just vibes.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. I started off in the music scene in 2018 just going to parties trying to cure my depression. I started off going to hip hop/dancehall parties and loved it so much that I wanted to share it with the world. I created a website to promote events and do interviews on artists but as ADHD happened I dropped that to become a nightlife photographer/radio programmer/radio operationalist which has led me to all of my friends now but I never started to DJ. It was 2019 that I randomly bought a controller and here we are now. I am blessed to have grown and be recognized in the scene as I want to amplify black people.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. Honestly, I got really high off the zaza one day and was listening to the Street Fighter 3 soundtrack and just got up and recorded the mix. I wanted it to be something I listened to on my birthday to vibe to and relaxes me. Purely selfish and I hope everyone feels relaxed when listening. Short and sweet xx

Next up on Carhartt WIP Radio is the Chicago-based DJ and producer Jana Rush, who began DJing at the age of ten, before making her production debut a few years later on Jesse Saunders’ legendary Dance Mania imprint.

Following the release of “DJ Deeon Presents the Youngest Female DJ” in 1996, Rush became a regular at Chicago juke, footwork, and house events, playing alongside legends like the late DJ Rashad. Between 1996-2015, she went on hiatus to concentrate on a life outside of music, working as a chemical engineer by day and a CAT scan technologist by night.

In 2017, Jana Rush returned with her first full length album “Pariah”. It kicked off a series of shows around the world in venues such as Chicago’s Smartbar and Berlin’s Berghain, and at festivals like Rewire in The Hague.
 
During the pandemic, Rush found the time to work on her second album “Painful Enlightenment'', released on Planet Mu in 2021. The album is a move away from familiar footwork sounds into more abstract territories. The exclusive mix Rush created for Carhartt WIP Radio is just as experimental – or in her own words, “unapologetically Jana Rush.” Accompanying the mix is an interview with Rush touching on the current state of the Chicago house scene, eschewing social media to focus on her craft, and what she has in the pipeline. www.carhartt-wip.com/journal/music
