Pan-Pot return to their Second State imprint to serve up the label's sixth release this year. The illustrious Second State has been fostering the sound of some of techno’s biggest tastemakers and emerging artists for several years, with releases throughout 2021 so far being some of their strongest ones to date. "Voodoo Signs" EP however, is a shift from their usual productions, incorporating a breakbeat sound throughout the record, a step away from the duo’s familiar straight ahead techno weapons.

Hugely atmospheric and packed with conflicting elements, “Voodoo” is the punchier cut of the two tracks on the record. A palpitating muffled kick launches and is quickly joined by rapid percussion and dancing hi-hats that weave throughout the heaviness. As things develop, these turbulent elements are smoothly subdued to let doomy wails echo and build to a crescendo. The main vocal sample meshes with several other voices that ominously quaver over the original. A stabbing melody is then introduced, skittering over the foundations with broken beat drum hooks moving in unison.

On the flip side is “Signs”, a peak time fast paced club track with a driving beat. A stifled kickdrum and a singular bleating tone start things off, before the full weight of the drum is unleashed. A dark looming bass builds on top of cracking percussion and claps until it’s replaced by a distorted male vocal sample crying out “searching, searching”. In the second half, the bleating tone is pushed into the minor key and the bass looms, menacingly. The kick drum returns while the vocal sample becomes increasingly distorted until it fades out. A breakbeat cuts through the noise, switching up the energy and reinstating the hectic, club atmosphere.

Bendtsen returns to Shadow Wulf with his latest EP, “Energy”. The EP contains 2 captivating original techno tracks, “Energy” and “Imposter” with Bendtsen’s signature “dialogue style” - part of the track that is unfinished like a phrase, and another that accompanies an “answer”.  On the tack, Bendtsen’s question-and-answer methodology will incorporate lead sounds and driving bass arps underneath that will push everything forward. 

Also included on the release are two remixes from fellow Denmark producer Neumann, and a collaborative remix from French producer Inphasia and Data Groove. This will be the first release on Shadow Wulf for all of the aforementioned remix producers.

The entire EP has pre-orders available and releases Friday, May 27th.

Illusions of Power is about political corruption, the collapse and seizure of control, sparring nations, war, drugs, gangs and the fraudulent, media systems that spin it all into rolling, fear-mongering 24 hour loops. Illusions of Power is about the horrors of the modern world and a humanity haunted by its bloodied past. But as every long dark tunnel comes to an end, Illusions of Power too has its glimmers of hope.

Written with an arsenal of hardware gear from the Londoner’s studio in Berlin, Dax J’s Electric Deluxe debut is a militant, yet atmospherical dancefloor assault. As he has proven over a slew of EPs for EarToGround Records and labels like LDNWHT, Deeply Rooted, Clergy and his own Monnom Black label, his sound is a compelling and thoroughly contemporary one. Dax J’s productions are typically mercurial, informed by the past and fortified with a wide range of influences from acid and ambient, to jungle and drum & bass. His EPs are rich, kaleidoscopic ventures involving an array of tempos and moods, and Illusions of Power is no different.

In “Reign Of Terror” and “Harry The Hatchet” on the A-side, and “Zulu Nation” and “The Quest” on the flip, Dax J flexes sinewy techno muscle in his rave-inciting idiom where the new and the oldschool collide. Then in the angst-ridden “Cartagena Square” (built around field recordings from Cartagena in South America) and dreamy breakbeats of “Breaking Visions” Illusions of Power present two very different diversions from the dance. In one there is light and a sense of relief; in the other, shadowy omens of the world are massing. The future is full of promise, but be on your guard.

With each artist selecting their favourite album track, Slam step up first with their interpretation of the feisty Code Black, delivering an even more high octane version. Yes De May makes a welcome appearance on Soma under his Grey Branches moniker - his version of Tell Me Your Secrets sees a more broken beat, visceral affair take hold. JoeFarr drops two versions of 1997 Reprise, producing two very stylistic, hard-edged takes on Rebekah’s original. Rounding off this varied remix EP is UK techno newcomer Stephanie Sykes who recreates Breathe in a deep and stimulating manner.

Slam and Obscure Shape & SHDW step up for the second wave of Radio Slave ‘Grindhouse’ remixes on Rekids this February.

One of techno’s most iconic records, ‘Grindhouse’ first appeared on Radio Slave’s ‘No Sleep’ series before spawning multiple remixes from Dubfire, Danton Eeprom, Terence Fixmer and Nic Fanciulli. Kick-started by Len Faki, last year saw the announcement of a series of remixes with more to come from Vatican Shadow, Markus Suckut, Lady Starlight and Special Request.

Complete with relentless kicks, sinister drones and industrial elements, Part Two is not for the faint-hearted. Starting with Slam, the Soma bosses keep things dark, with rattling top lines and echoing effects resulting in a truly decadent techno floor destroyer.

Following a remix of Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ in 2016, Obscure Shape & SHDW’s abilities are held in high regard by the Rekids owner and their rework of ‘Grindhouse’ reinforces why. Complete with a rumbling low- end, metallic melodies and soaring synths, the From Another Mind founders continue to establish themselves as two of techno’s most exciting names.
