This was going to be the title track of a goa EP I was going to put out, but then I dropped my hard drive and learned the hard way the importance of backing up your files.

Pandanandi - Live @ Return to Gaia 7-7-12 (Oldschool Goa DJ Set)

"One day your eggs are going to hatch and some very strange birds are going to emerge."

Spanning tracks from 1971 to 2016, this eclectic DJ set is an experimental assemblage of psychedelic, ritual, and sacred music which marks my return to the creative life after three years away fighting cancer and mental health issues.

Released as a promo mix for festivals seeking artists for their chill stages. Don't let the word ambient fool you: this is intense music for personal transformations and their aftermaths.

A goa/psytrance promo mix will follow soon. Artist albums (as opposed to DJ sets) are also on the horizon, hopefully as early as the first few months of 2019.

Strange Birds Take to Flight During Storm (Ambient/Ritual Promo Mix 2018)

It was a great privilege and honor for me to play at this year's Equinox festival. Thrown by TOUCH Samadhi, Equinox is one of my favorite psytrance festivals in north america. It occupies an amazing landscape, replete with mountains and lakes, and, being the oldest still-running psytrance party in the USA, it carries with it a legacy of experience and careful planing. In short, it's a damn good party.

Moreover, it was the first the first three-day psytrance festival I attended, many years ago, and, secondarily, playing at this iteration of the party marked my return to playing psytrance in front of crowds, having been sick with cancer for the last several years.

I was booked to play just after sunrise, in-between Axis Mundi, a psycore/experimental musician whose music I greatly respect, and Amanezca, a DJ/producer who, although a new face to me, had a reputation as a good morning-trance DJ. It was my job to bridge these styles - psycore and morning trance - at a festival which I hold in the highest regard, after not playing in front of a crowd in a few years.

To put it bluntly, I was scared shitless of disappointing myself, the crowd, or the festival organizers. 

I did no such thing. Many strangers, including other artists and staff, have approached me to tell me it was one of their favorite sets at the festival. My approach - to bring a bundle of darkpsy, forest, and old russian morning tracks, and fly by the seat of my pants with a vague plan in mind - had paid off.

I feel greatly renewed, emotionally and artistically, and I look forward to DJing at more parties in the future. Contact me if you'd like to book me, I play darkpsy, a smidge of forest, dark ambient, and old jungle/uk breakbeat hardcore.

Side note: The last transition in this set began to slide out of my control for a few seconds as the kickdrums began to get away from each other before I nudged them together. The urge to re-record the set when i got home was strong, but I dismissed it for two reasons. The first is obvious: authenticity. Re-recording the set to fix one silly transition felt vain and inauthentic. However, there's something else to talk about in this case. With the rise of computers and DJing software, it is my experience that there's no way to play out without someone looking down at you. If you play a perfect set, you're accused of letting the computer beatmatch for you. On the contrary, if you play an imperfect set, someone, somewhere; is casting derision on you for not being perfect. It is impossible to please the gear fetishists and digital elitists.

Thus, I have presented this set as it was played - proudly! - as a middle finger to ever psy elitist in the USA and beyond, and also as a testament to the lovely and imperfect human element that survives in every artform, laptop or not.
