9 - Charlottesville

Common Is Different Than Normal

Pandemmy was created on January 10th 2009, in Recife. Its sound mixes elements of Thrash and Death metal alongside each member’s own musical influences. On February 2010, the band released a demo entitled Self-Destruction containing four original songs, being well received by the public and being well-reviewed (by respectable websites such as Recife Metal Law and the Roadie Crew magazine) as well. The band also played many great shows throughout the Brazilian northeastern cities of Mossoró (RN), Recife (PE), Maceió (AL), Caruaru (PE), Campina Grande (PB) and Natal (RN). On the last trimester of the same year, the band finished the songwriting process for its second release, an EP named Idiocracy.

On January 2011, just before the release of Idiocracy, the band goes through its first lineup change. Drummer Fausto Prieto leaves the band, being temporarily substituted by Flávio Santos while the band searched for a permanent drummer. Meanwhile, Pandemmy was invited to take part on the compilation named “RATAMAHATTA: De Pernambuco Para o Mundo: Um Tributo ao Sepultura” (showcasing bands from Pandemmy’s home state of Pernambuco covering Sepultura songs), playing the song Convicted in Life (from Dante XXI). Flávio Santos takes part on the recordings for tribute and on February of that same year Ricardo Lira becomes the full-time drummer for the band.

On March 26th 2011, Idiocracy is released. The Ep shows the band as more mature (both songwriting and production-wise) and the group plays gigs in new places, such as the cities of João Pessoa (PB) and Remígio (PB), while also being very well reviewed within the Brazilian Heavy Metal media. Lyrically, the album talks about topics such as political/religious corruption and humanity’s overall laziness and sheep-like behavior when it comes to fight against such troubles. Instrumentally, the Ep showcased faster, more aggressive riffing, a wider array of melodies, guitar leads and a deeper, more diverse vocal approach.

During the shows to support Idiocracy, the band wins the regional finals of the W:O:A Metal Battle of Recife, being qualified to play on the National Finals which took place on Roça N’ Roll, a traditional rock music festival in the city of Varginha/MG. Pandemmy’s last show on the tour to support Idiocracy was as the opening act for Ragnarok (AUT) and Belphegor (NOR) in Recife.

In the beginning of 2012, the band plans to release its third independent record, (the last one before the debut album), an Ep named Dialectic. The five songs contained in the Ep showcase diverse and never-explored elements for the band so far, and are songs that didn’t make it to the full-length. The band is currently on the stage of pre-production of its debut album, slated to be release on the first months of 2013.
