MIX SERIES: project 18 - Veryl East

Around Spring 2024, after some years of playing trance, I came to realize that many of my favourite artists have a habit of releasing ambient productions from time to time. So I started collecting such works and putting them together in mixes. The idea was to gather all the emotional facets and colourful soundscapes of trance, but without the usual percussion. A somewhat experimental side quest at first, this soon accounted for at least half of my gigs and mixes. The more ambient sets I played, the more I understood and appreciated how ambient floors allow for different connections to music and to people. In August 2025, I got the chance to play an extended three-hour ambient set at Schwing & Stampf Festival in Switzerland, surrounded by beautiful mountainous nature. The set I played was the result of more than a year of searching for ambient works by trance producers. Almost all the tracks selected originated from the trance world in one way or another. Since I liked the idea of having a single summary of this ambient trance quest, in addition to separate shorter mixes along the way, I decided to reproduce the set as played on 29 August 2025. Here it is.

The last 20 minutes are a bit unhinged, apologies, it felt right in the moment. Also, the mixer’s channel fader response curve was less linear than what I‘m used to, which can be heard in some transitions.
