Jocelyn Pook - Hallelujah (DESH)

This song was part of a creative communication assignment for my current MSc in climate science at the Centre of Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. It was inspired by the word"Unci Maka", which is a Lakota word and associated worldview meaning Grandmother Earth, the literal translation is "very ancient me". Many indigenous languages don't recognise a separation between us and nature as the English language does. 
Maybe this can point us to our role as nature, and deepen our connection, using our hands and hearts to heal together.

Deep gratitude to the Shipibo people for their ancient wisdom and healing vibrations.

The Shipibo (indigenous people from the peruvian amazon) see and hear geometric patterns in nature and reproduce the designs on their clothing and paint them on their houses and boats. The Shipibo believe the patterns are healing on the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels.

Every design carries its own specific meaning. For example,
to bring healing, wisdom, protection or to attract abundance.
These ‘artful prayers’ can be sung by the Shipibo because each design also functions as a musical score, called an ‘Icaro’.

The design element and the ‘Icaro’ operate
cohesively to carry the power of the healing
or blessing.
