Peyote is a medicine used by indigenous people in North America, in the US and Mexico. I was fortunate to participate in a peyote ceremony held in a tipi in Essex with elders from Mexico. When I returned home, this song and its lyrics arrived fully formed, telling the story of the peyote ceremony and following morning, a gift from the sacred peyote.
It has gained in popularity in the past decades and the plant is in decline. The Indigenous Peyote Conservation Initiative protect this important plant that provides such beautiful connection. Indigenous people were forbidden from using this medicine in the US until 1994.

"I'm loving the Johnny Cash meets Mongolian throat singers vibe." (Felix Macintosh)
London based Boho folk singer Pandora's Diary was inspired to cover the Johnny Cash classic whilst completing her Yoga training at Vajrasati Yoga School.
The final assessment was named "Ring of Fire" and Pandora recorded a demo while studying for this. 
Pandora's impressive vocal range goes from gentle tones to overtones and dropping 2 octaves with a Sanskrit invocation to Patanjali, a 4th century sage who wrote the most read book in yoga. 
The lyrics, which on the surface seem to be a love song point to the tantra.
Further research revealed the many meanings of Ring of Fire - it's the name for the outer ring in a Tibetan yantra (a form of mandala), the Pacific ring, it's often referred to in birth.
