This is part of a little challenge series I have putting myself through where I try to come up with a short 'jam' track everyday. It's really been helping with recording, tracking and mixing. So the other day I decided to make more of a metal track, with this little practice riff I like to warm up with. This was more of an experiment in dialing in good metal tones than anything. Not that I succeeded.
I'm not happy with the rhythm section completely. I think that needs some tweaking of my personal settings/playing, but I've been taking suggestions from different places, and it sounds loads better than some of my other attempts. Thought I would upload what I have so far, and add this one pile of ideas I want to flesh out more. Hopefully you enjoy this small bit.

Sometimes we hear things that just inspire us. Whether it's a speech, a song, or a movie. Especially in the music realm, inspiration is what drives most of us and it is why we pick up the instrument in the first place. 
In my case I get inspired by ideas, and I think that is what grabbed me with this track. I heard it on BTB's page and felt there was a nugget of gold there. The off-kilter guitar rhythm gives it a unique flavor that would goes against the hip-hop and trap stylings that it borrows from. Couple that with the simple minor key progression and it has a vaguely halloweenish, creepy, and mysterious feeling. In my head, when I heard the track, I knew it needed a little metal to bring out a bit amore dreadful atmosphere, especially with a name like Demogorgan.

I tried to keep it simple and approachable as I didn't want to chop up the track, more so just add an element to it. The solos are largely improv, I just tried to keep in mind my approach to each one. The first one is supposed to be almost more 'rappish' if that makes sense. It should flow more like words from a Rap artist, while the second solo is meant to be more of a standard metal affair with small blues stylings.
Anyway, it was a blast to make and I am overall very happy with it. I hope you enjoy it as well. Thank you for your support.

Come Around

Delving more into rhythmic syncopation and motion. I was inspired by the FF7 'Wall-market' theme for this piece. I guess in my mind I wanted a sort of slinky, groovy, rhythmic fusion sort of vibe, but with my own characteristic story-telling. I tried to mostly forgo a melody and instead use rhythmic chord stabs and note spacing to give the push and pull for this track so each section has it's own sort of emotional texture. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

Pick Attack was my old release name, as I’m mainly a guitarist, but it felt kind of limiting to make releases under. So Panopt is sort of a new creative vision for my self and those I collaborate with. With that I’m looking to expand my creative output.
