Read what he had to say when he sat down with us and kindly answered a few questions. 

Robin, your the first person to do 2 podcasts for us, and this is definitely your most eclectic to date. Please take us through some of the music youve included, the selections were perfect. 

First of all, it is as always a great honor to be able to do a podcast for Oleeva. For this one i’ve been digging quite a lot. I wanted to do a mix, that represents my latest sentiments on music. Besides the new findings, such as for example Japanese Ambient producer Hiroshi Yoshimura, who was one of the Pioneers of organic electronic music as we know it today, i included some pieces, that inspired me in my childhood. I tried to create a fluid composition of ambient and housy pieces which i enjoy and which inspire me at the moment.

2. Your currently sat on a bean bag in Laganini, Croatia, on your final night here, after playing 3 hours over the sunset, and an hour of table tennis before that! How was the set and how has your time here been?

I really had an incredible time in Laganini. The beautiful weather, the crystal clear sea and especially the welcoming warmth of the people and the communal spirit of this place makes it an experience i won’t forget. At the end of this day i played a really spontaneous set with Will from Kotu that had really relaxed and pure vibes and it turned out to be a great ending of my time here in Laganini.

3. We're biased, but we really think your recent Yao ep is your best yet, its so refreshing. How did the 3 tracks come to life, and talk us through their names please. 

Yao is a special EP for me, since it is the first original release of mine since i decided to be a full time producer and DJ in 2018. I started the EP when i came back from a trip to Japan with my brother. The memories and the spirit of the travel encouraged me to stick close to my roots for the upcoming releases when it comes to my productions. The names are as so often foreign words or coinages, inspired by words i know from different languages. In the case of this EP, „Kailo“ is an alteration of the Chinese word for „happy“, „Yao“ is a word that also appears in the track itself, which means „having“ in Chinese. Wulon is just something that came to my mind, when i wrote the track.

4. The boring old classic question.. whats next in the world of sam goku?

When i return from Croatia, i have some unfinished Projects on my desk, which i would like to work on and finish. I will be hopefully play some more gigs and at the end of this year i will look back on 2018 and decide what i want to do in the next year.

5. Not so boring question, what do you think life on earth will be like in 1000 years, will humans still be around?

This is a hard question indeed. Considering the recent tendencies, life in 1000 years will be nothing like we know it today. I expect humans to evolve further and find solutions for the harm they’ve caused to this planet and their own mindsets. I really think that the best way into the future could be for every human to listen more to their hearts and find their true passion in life. There is nothing wrong in following the latest trends, if that really is what feels right but i feel it is important not to try and pretend to be someone you are not. That could lead us all to a bright and optimistic future. On earth or anywhere else.

Marvin & Guy and Life and Death label head Dj Tennis, individually have grown into household names within the electronic music underground, and even closer to the foreground, gracing dancefloors all over the world with distinctively unique and energetic sets whether in huge venues or intimate clubs. Coming a long way from a small town in Northern Italy, Marcello, Alessandro and Manfredi have been spotted at the helm of many celebrated parties, from ADE to Sonar, Burning Man to gigs in Panorama Bar. As producers, the effect of their sophisticated ear for music shaped by diverse genres across generations, coupled with the gift of expressing passion through sound, resound tenfold through acclaimed and widely played productions for various prominent labels - Permanent Vacation, Life and Death, Running Back, Kompakt, K7, Desolat just to name a few. But joining forces reveal an even deeper layer worth seeing. Though their friendship has not remained unseen, not limited to their epic B2Bs and more notably, the creation of Life of Marvin label a few years back, just how close and alike are the three we are yet to find out. Shortly before the release of their first EP as Life of Marvin, Marvin & Guy and DJ Tennis take moments away from their very busy schedules to talk to Torture the Artist about the past, present and future of their joint venture, what they left out along with Death & Guy and needed to channel through this special project, and inevitably, the friendship and shared inspirations at its core.

Sascha Funke, his genre-bending productions spanning intercontinental labels, from Kompakt to BPitch, Multi Culti to Endless Flight, and his unpredictable, emotive and body binding sets, have withstood the impulsive currents of a volatile music scene across decades. Not many artists have the cultural richness, social chaos durability and complex artistic intellect the post-wall Berlin of the 1990’s etches into one’s DNA, but even fewer are those who are able to fully comprehend the ambiguous, perplex and equally enigmatic languages of techno, house, disco, wave, electro, cosmic, Krautrock and everything in between, and translate sounds into musical experiences that transcend time, space and dimension. But here is Sascha Funke in 2020, father foremost, post-Saschienne, post-Berlin Calling, making moves, seaming sounds, digital crate digging, still relevant. Shortly after the holidays, and in between projects, the Berlin born and raised DJ takes a break from fatherly duties and studio time to chat with Torture the Artist and curate a rare art:cast to set the mood.

Panthera Krause, our most favorite maverick of house, began his musical journey back in 2007 with his band Marbert Rocel, culminating in four albums on Compost Records that showcased his thrilling variety and unparalleled talent in the world of electronic music. After finishing his Studies of graphic Design at Bauhaus University Weimar his move to Leipzig opened up a new world of eclectic sound that inspired him to focus more on his own productions, resulting in energized, sanguinely tempered club tunes as something that comes just natural to this man, while broadening his stylistic spectrum to an unheard and absolutely thrilling variety. His releases on Live at Robert Johnson, Permanent Vacation and his own label Riotvan highlighted his lighthearted and groovy understanding of electronic music, earning him gigs from Burning Man Festival to Panoramabar and from Sunday Sunday to Robert Johnson. Pantheras live sets and DJ performances have been lauded for their passion and diversity, with recorded DJ sets for NTS Radio, HÖR, Groove Magazin, and Gilles Petersons Worldwide showcasing his unique style. Alongside Peter Invasion, he runs the Leipzig based label Riotvan where he released his first album back in 2019, It's a Business Doing Pleasure With You, hailed as the epitome of Krause-ness. With a range of remixes for Ätna, Jamiie, Kasper Bjorke to name just a few Panthera Krause continues to push boundaries and delight audiences worldwide with his innovative sound. His forthcoming „new-age-dark-pool-side-album“,how he calls it Aside The Aeons on Leipzigs Boutique Label number one Kann in 2024 is a testament to his unique musical style and promises a new era for this talented artist.
