As a photographer, and the son of a very good and known photographer, I have come to appreciate the work of models.  Today, with electronic automatic photography (which does not mean good photography) there seem to be just a lot of guys with a camera, using it as a ploy to get to see a beautiful girl.  It doesn't work.  Art is to be respected, and the people who make art and are the subjects of beauty need to be respected...so that is what this is all about.

This song was written when a close friend commented on a picture of my wife I'd taken in the early 1970's...my friend told me it was beautiful not just because Jean was, but because it looked like she was saying something to me with her eyes.  I remember that time well, she was, she was letting me know she understood...she got me....we belonged together.  This Photograph that I hold in hand, a memory of a moment passed....when you looked at me and seemed to say, I understand.

A man goes out into the graveyard on a cold November night...he senses he is walking with the spirits, unsure of what is happening...he reads an inscription on a grave stone...then realizes it is his.

As You Are, Once Was I

I grew up hearing about "the big one."  The Big One was an explosion that happened at Hercules Powder Company in September of 1940.  My Grandfather and Father both worked there at the time.  The explosion was most likely sabotage executed by German sympathizers.  Nearby was a camp being used by the German American Bund and the Ku Klux Klan.  The government was surveilling them.  The song tells the story.  It has been buried in history.  They never caught the perpetrators.  It was the single biggest non nuclear explosion to ever occur.  They say cars left the surface of the George Washington Bridge some 40 miles away.

I was in a situation one time where it became obvious to me that some of the people around me had a very different view of life than I did, of how we should look at each other in an egalitarian sense.  I thought about things my grandfather had taught me and wrote this song.
