This mixtape is a tribute to one of my favourite video game composers of all time, Masafumi Takada (born 1970), former Grasshopper Manufacture composer and founder of Sound Prestige Records. He is best known for his unique soundtracks for Grasshopper Manufacture games including "Flower, Sun and Rain", "killer7" and "No More Heroes". He also produced the soundtracks for Spike Chunsoft's "Danganronpa" franchise (i.e. three video games and one animated series) as well as music for Nintendo games including "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" and "Kid Icarus: Uprising". His music often experiments with elements from many music genres (e.g. pop, rock, jazz, electronic, hip-hop, etc.) thus making his style widely varied.

This tribute mixtape features songs taken from seven different soundtracks (all of which Masafumi Takada worked on) and mixes them all down to one seamless, exhilarating seven-minute soundscape. This was mainly produced to celebrate the recent Japanese release of "Absolute Despair Girls: Danganronpa Another Episode" for the PlayStation Vita.

It's been a happy spectacle watching our friends at Lobster Theremin grow into the pink-bellied beast we see before us today. Their following has grown almost as quickly as their roster, snowballing via a release schedule that's as strong as it is frequent: a consistently welcome serve-up of Motor City-inspired house, dreamscape acid and narcotic techno. 

Late last year, Camp Lobster drilled deeper into the spectrum with Mörk, the label's darkling sub-imprint and home to its gloomiest techno. This week they inaugurate a new imprint, Distant Hawaii – a summer off-shoot for beach-coasting sunshine house. And its first release is exactly that: a wonderfully deep debut for Manchester man Hidden Spheres. 'Waiting' is our pick of the litter: a glowing thumper that's all butter-melt Rhodes lines, ecstatic vocal whoops, and tons of playful percussion. The perfect summer jam, basically – coming to a terrace near you very soon.

No Fun On A Friday Night

After a ‘90s childhood spent collecting tapes & CDs, I started buying records in 1998, DJ’ing in 2007, and organising club nights in 2009. I currently run Telephones, Woweembeem, Discotekken and The RnB Club at several mid-sized clubs in Dublin (usually 3/400 capacity). Each night has it’s own vibe, musical ethos & crowd which allows me to dig for and play many different styles of music to receptive dancefloors, several times a month – which is amazing and something I don’t take for granted. I play music with soul; jazz, disco, afro, reggae,  hip hop, rnb, house, techno, some 'rave' and lots of  other associated sub-genres.
