With his ramshackle, bargain basement, DIY approach to technology,
Taperecorder’s roots are deep in house, with nods to the punk aesthetic,
early rave culture, and indie rock. Francis cheekily infuses his
signature squelchy beats with found sounds, acoustic doodlings,
a touch of glitch, and stories to make you smile.

Taperecorder_Make Em Go Damn

San Francisco based record label Roam Recordings celebrates its 100th release with a compilation from beloved alumni and new artists offering original work spanning darker shades of disco, cosmic techno, psychedelic, and acid house. What started as a group of ravers in the mid 90s that roamed the countryside (mostly in the US, Canada, and Mexico) looking for parties has evolved under the direction of its boss Jason Peters into a record label featuring a diverse array of internationally known artists. The intent of the record label is to continue the journey in search of new sounds while honoring the past. The Roam 100 Compilation is a milestone in that journey. It has been arranged to be enjoyed from beginning to end and to be rifled through at will.

PREMIERE : The Emperor Machine - I Wanna Sem You

Sub Bus b/w Low Level Transit Movement came out of a series of experiments that involved myself responding in real time musically to my daily public transit commutes to and from my day job. These commutes which at the time of composing this material were abut 2 hours in length each way, sometimes a little longer. My process was simple, using either an iPad or an iPhone and one of many different iOS music making apps I would write one part of the tracks found in this 2 song single, responding in the moment on the bus or subway to how my commute was making me feel. Each track was written in a multi day process, drums, bass, synth melody or lead, percussion and so on. Once I got all parts written out I would use that as raw material to compose each track in my home studio, finally resulting in the single your listening to now. Thanks for listening, naw

Montreal ex-pat naw (Neil Wiernik) who currently calls Toronto his home, began composing electronic music in 1988 with explorations in audio art and experimental music. Neil’s interest in sound and technology has lead him to a continued questioning and refinement of audio tools and modes of production resulting in experimentation with altered instruments, modified devices, and custom software environments. Neil’s music could be described as warm, atmospheric,
and cinematic electronic music. The sound design of naw is firmly grounded in the rich traditions of dub studio culture but can also be weighed alongside formal contemporary composition. His music
was recently described in “The Wire” as having “…the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid the murk and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays.” Neil has released music on various labels
Noise Factory Records for his naw project and on Elevation Recordings for his most recent project Whisper Room. Sub Bus is his second release on the paper+sound label.

Whether it’s bouncy UK garage styled beats, deep dubstep excursions, skippy house, trip hop or even footwork stylings, his vision is set firmly on creating music which takes the sounds of genres like dub, downtempo, dub-techno and early dubstep in different directions but together and cohesively.

The echoes of Stillhead’s previous alias DFRNT seem to get louder here as he takes another foray into the world of deep electronic music.

Since his days of releasing deep post-dubstep as DFRNT, Alex Cowles has been crafting his sound in multiple genres and since 2014, his Stillhead moniker has carried that torch over 4 albums and a number of EPs. His newest album “Restraint And Reverb” will be landing on 12th August on double heavyweight coloured vinyl. Released on his own Brightest Dark Place label the full 12-track album will be available in both physical format and digitally.

LES FONTAINES are a Toronto "éléctro-psyche" synth pop duo.
Their brand new Canandaa e.p. is a four single available in DL and limited edition cassette formats.

Canandaa (part 1) is taken from Les Fontaines' debut 8 track LP "MAGIC TOUCH", which is also out now on Toronto's paper+sound label. Parts 2 and 4 reprise the heavy electro drone, while part 3 aims directly at mutant disko dancefloors.

The four tracks on the Canandaa single were created solely utilizing a small collection of vintage synthesizers, drum machines and cheap & nasty effects units.

Long sessions of electronic music improvisation influenced by a collection of cheap 80's hi-energy 12" singles, fueled by other-worldy substances.

Les Fontaines love their distorted hand-played synth leads, over-layed on top of choppy drum box funk rhythms, arpeggiated bass lines and swirling, walls of phased sound. Occasional metallic voices float in and out of the mix, commanding the listener to pay attention.

Les Fontaines create their own singular sound of psychedelic, electronic, art synth punk-funk.

Lorenz Peter (synths, noise, turntables) has played in numerous duos, including CORPUSSE and in bass synth duo PROCESSOR.

Heiki Sillaste (synths, drum machines, effects) has previously made music as cult elektro industrialists DIGITAL POODLE and electronic maximalists KINDER ATOM.

Heiki (Hey-Key) is a veteran of the Toronto electronic music scene. Since 1987,
Heiki Sillaste has released an impressive catalogue of well over 45 synthesizer-based records and made over 150 compilation appearances. Heiki began his musical career fronting the acclaimed industrial-tekno group Digital Poodle in the late 80's to early 90's and ran the now infamous Shadow Canada label. In 1995, he went on to co-found nice+smooth ultramedia, an independent electronic music label and record with his band Kinder Atom.
Screen Door is taken from Heiki’s debut 12 track album Paper+Sound, his first album as a solo artist, available on both CD and digital download. The album is stylistically divided into two halves. The first half of the album features spacey minimal deep techno with an emphasis on sub woofing baselines and melodic atmospheres. The second half of the Paper+Sound album explores slower, dubbed out down tempo rhythms. Rib cage shaking bass and discrete ambient flourishes feature on all of the subtle melodic soundscapes.
