Told far and wide are tales of individuals losing themselves within the wills of others, their vital energies coaxed, coerced, and controlled to do the bidding of another who operates their physical form as a master puppeteer. These tales offer abounding descriptions of the evil deeds wrought by such hapless souls, the horrors committed by their own unwilling hand as bent under the force of another. While genuine in their tellings, these stories oft ignore the most horrific aspect of their subject matter, that of the experience endured by the individual whist under the thrall of POSSESSION.

Those who survive such ordeals invariably emerge forever changed, their sense of self warped by the machinations of even the most benign of possessors. Few are those to begin with, and many more bear greater psychic scars. Haunted by the ego of their former master, their dreams, thoughts, and even visions are often clouded by the threads of the psychic link that forever remain. Some are further cursed with recurring compulsions, echoes of the commands once bestowed upon them that visit & prey upon their fragile psyche at random. Forever altered, these individuals wander bereft of their individuality, vestigial forms hollowed out by the power of POSSESSION.

NEMEAN delivers his debut EP with POSSESSION, a four-track work that places the will of the EATBRAIN horde under his control as the four tracks within surge with a psychoacoustic power set to see all who listen enthralled by NEMEAN’S mysterious sonic silhouette.

Announced by the trend setting platform UKF, Lights Out has become a hotly tipped collaborative project which sees two of the most heavyweight figures in the drum & bass world’s darkest corners join forces for a ground-breaking merging of talents. Known through his pivotal part in Eatbrain’s super-league, the Bulgarian stalwart L 33 has received pride of place amongst many of the scene’s biggest platforms, including Andy C’s ‘Nightlife 6’ and Drum & Bass Arena compilations as well as Ram Record’s sub imprint Program.

MC Coppa is the other half of the Lights Out syndicate and since his Coppa Live touring circuit, he’s become the notable face for many Eatbrain nights globally, showcasing his lyrical prowess and stage presence on huge festival stages. The announcement that MC Coppa and L 33 are merging their talents has set anticipation for their first release; ‘Sorcery!’ and ‘S.E.A.L.S’ are the first look into what they have forthcoming throughout 2019 and beyond, with both representing a formidable launch pad. 

The single’s A-side ‘Sorcery!’ certainly sets the tone and it creates a landscape which drags you into its snapping claws, leaving you no time to escape. The cut-throat bassline striking through the heart of this track is typical of the L33 sound, one which he has become renowned for and a signature which has earned him a staggering audience. Coppa adds his crooning vocals into the mix and as a result, you’re made aware of their harmonious co-operative might. 

The reverse features ‘S.E.A.L.S’, this time taking you down a route which sees L33 flip the switch and deliver a more half-time motion, gearing you up for a second drop after the first catapults you into its first raucous breakdown. Once again L 33 gives a masterclass in production, pedalling his encompassing atmospherics which draw in Coppa’s punchy vocals. Coppa and L 33 go straight for the jugular although this can only be expected from a pair who each have their own formidable place within the drum & bass scene. They are continuing this assault throughout 2019, with ‘Sorcery!’ and ‘S.E.A.L.S’ being the beginning of a journey which will see them become a definitive force yet again within the neurofunk subgenre.

The fires of the NEUROPUNK FORGE alight once more with the arrival of the WARHEAD EP, the latest release from rising Russian duo DESPERSION on NEUROPUNK RECORDS. Established in 2017, the duo have seen previous releases on a variety of labels including Ignescent, 0101 and Kill Tomorrow, within which they have displayed their development of a style that blends complex melodic motifs with aggressive percussive and bassline sequences for a synthesis formed of these two often disparate sounds. Now making their NEUROPUNK RECORDS debut, DESPERSION deliver four tracks in this signature style to create the latest set of auditory weapons straight from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

Opened by the minor chords and arpeggios of the title track of the same name, the WARHEAD EP quickly erupts with low end weight leavened by the interspersion of melodic reprisals of its opening theme. The deceptively named PEACE which follows provides a slice of scathing neurofunk marked by the tonalities of the distorted hornlike synth that blasts above its rapidly moving bassline. OFFENSIVE next delivers an explosive barrage of transient percussive impacts that fall with perfectly planned precision amongst the tracks chaotic upper atmosphere. Closing the EP is I NEED YOU NOW, which departs from the hard charging energy of its predecessors to deliver a flowing vocal cut emblematic of DESPERSION’s melodic abilities.

With the WARHEAD EP, DESPERSION deliver a dynamic debut on NEUROPUNK RECORDS, showing a deft ability to craft beautiful melodic sequences and works of utmost sonic aggression in equal measure, marking themselves as a duo to watch as they emerge from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

PAPERFUNK RECORDINGS – is a dark drum&bass label which sound will be based on the hard and metallic techstep and neurofunk sound. There’s no place for popular sound. The label’s main goal is to flood cities and towns with the special mixtures containing nano-robots that supposed to get inside people’s brains and plunge them down in the deepest adolescent memories and show them the unrealized future. The hardness of the mix, the steel of the drums, the oil of the bass and the rust of the effects – are the main and crucial keywords of the PAPERFUNK label.
