This juxtaposes the lyrics -- in Brian Wilson fashion -- which comment on escapism and the harmful consequences of avoiding unpleasant realities. In the words of Casey O'Brien, "It’s like being in warm ocean water with the person you love most in the world and still thinking about your car payment. A shadow around the light. It’s like spending your workday drafting your two-week notice but then coming home to a yellow dog who pisses on your shoes out of sheer joy. A sparkle in the darkness.
