This deep dive is into the collaborative effort on Perplexity's Discord server to develop and refine a "Scratchpad-Think" framework, a system prompt designed to enhance the reasoning and information-gathering abilities of large language models (LLMs). The framework encourages LLMs to think through problems in a structured way by prompting them to extract key information, document their reasoning process, ask exploratory questions, reflect on their output, and provide a refined search query for follow-up research. This approach aims to produce more comprehensive, informative, and coherent responses from LLMs.  Work started on this project in March 2024.
