A return to the source: ‘Ribcage’ is where it all began for the Dubfire project. After years of exploring, subverting and setting brave new benchmarks in the house world, this marked the start of Ali Shirazinia setting out to set the same creative benchmarks in techno. Restrained, drawn-out but beastly when it wanted to be, the original was a serious statement of intent. Even at the time you got a sense it was going to be a historic tune. Loco Dice especially felt that when he signed it to Desolat 10 years ago.

To celebrate this time-flying milestone, Dubfire’s recruited two of the most respected names possible for remix duties. First up, the unstoppable, unavoidable, unquenchable Dense & Pika who keep within the dramatic rising template but with a whole new set of instruments and textures… And a percussion palette that absolutely sizzles when the whole groove kicks in mid-way. Phenomenal.

Hot on their heels comes a unique remix invitation to On-U legend and one of the UK’s most decorated and treasured studio controllers Adrian Sherwood. Turning in a serious techno re-cut that pays tribute to every element and takes over 12 minutes to make sure they each shine amid the head-twisting pools of tripped-out decay, it’s clear his time with Pinch has had a profound effect.
Two incredibly well considered and detailed remixes that remind you what remixes should be… Brave new chapters of a story we all love being told. These will sound great when the 20th anniversary remixes are commissioned in 2027.

Revisiting another classic for this issue of Len Faki's edits, he chooses Kotai's 2002 track BA3 Breathing, a standout-cut for it's ringing vocals and ominous bassline rumbles. With the original clocking in at the 10-minute mark already, Faki's tribute mix is not much shorter, but manages to fill the spaces between beats with lots of fresh details, lifting the song's energy to a new level, while retaining the soft but sexy vibe of Kotai's compostion. Tightening up the mix and making away with vocals alltogether, the Hardspace Tool-version then solely puts its focus on busty beats and percussive prowess, staking its claim as contender for bossiest bassline of the night.

As with all releases of LF RMX, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the Berlin organization Straßenkinder e.V. to be used in actions against child poverty.

Damon Jee and Darlyn Vlys collide for their debut collaborative EP: ‘Kronos’

Titanic by name, untightened by nature; all three originals from the freshly-formed French collab and remixes from Rebolledo and Club Tularosa purr with dark disco charm. Big synth sweeps, deep-plunging modulating basslines, tidal cosmic washes and live instrumentation all strong flavours in the mix.

‘Kronos’ is the lord of the chug. All sleazy and vapour traces, both the more techno-influenced Wild mix and the hazier, trippier Shaman mix hit the groove sweet spot and set the scene for the psychedelic slo-mo stomps that follow… The harmonic push-me-pull-you ripples of ‘Antihero’ and its slinky bass strumming rework from Hippie Dance bossman Rebolledo and the animated tension of ‘Thrills’ and recent Me Me Me lurkers Club Tularosa whose vibrant space disco finale bring the EP to the dramatic crescendo it deserves.
