Schleiermacherstrasse is part of Stiff Little Spinners Vol. 6 (Audiolith).

Stiff Little Spinners enters it’s 6th volume with a 5 track package spanning the widest sonic spectrum imaginable. Its tracks, in typical Spinners fashion, range from r&b influenced house grooves to shimmering, broken-beat, new-age garage swing. Gimmix & Zorro prove their penchant for urban slow jams with a dance floor flavour. Their opener Oveile builds in a slow, sleazy fashion, eventually trading its more unpredictable drum arrangement for a sturdy 4/4 rhythm. The melody surges harmoniously, navigating the walls of its club-ready time signature, a phenomenal introduction to a mind-blowing collection of tracks.   Rampue slows things down on the A2 with Schleiermacherstrasse; a tripped-out, hazy roller with enough chime to hypnotise an entire stadium. This is not to say Volume 6 contains big room tracks, but rather the music’s power commands attention. This is certainly true for Kalipo’s Mäusemarsch, which whirls, in mesmerizing fashion achieving a climax fit for the party at its peak.   Krink’s Close Distance is perhaps the darkest sounding track offered by the Spinners - it seriousness and condensed energy is bound to leave audiences sweating, until its ferocious bassline gives way to soaring synths and jarred drums.   Joney changes the formula altogether - his sophisticated K-Hole Surfers offers a chugging, dubbed out roller which owes as much to techno as it does to dubstep. It is perhaps unsurprising from the track’s title that one feels like they are riding a rather erratic wave, delving in and out of our universe.   Already on their 6th volume, and churning out high-quality, club-ready tracks, this collective is set for big things.

LUM isn’t your typical electronic artist. Discovered by the mysterious guru Damian Lazarus during a scout for local talent for his Day Zero festival, LUM was found to represent the sound of the ancient Mayan culture. He was born in Argentina, is based in Riviera Maya in Tulum, Mexico, and has spent his life steeped in indigenous cultures. 

LUM’s sound is ingrained in the jungle, as he conducts his botanical research the same way he has been researching indigenous music. He’s prepared an EP for the Crosstown Rebels offshoot imprint Rebellion, and it is a mystical journey through space and time. Waking up in the middle of the night, feeling the gentle touch of moss on your bare skin and overwhelmed by the eery yet calming atmosphere of unknown surroundings. A location no one ever goes to, a destination unreachable by common means, but a place blurring the lines between having a dream and a state of mind. Welcome to Talabout.  

Stavroz managed to create a wholesome, comforting soundtrack for a place, which no words can describe. Take a rest, lay down, close your eyes and listen to a story told in an orchestral fashion, with such profession and ear for details like Luise never heard before. After listening to the deep and melancholic melodies of Oceanvs Orientalis - real name Safak Ozkutle - it’s clear he’s a man of many influences. Hailing from Istanbul, Turkey, Safak was inspired at an early age after being exposed to a variety of oriental selections by his mother, including Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic and Armenian music. Now he expands upon those motifs with steady, hypnotic rhythms that have taken him around the world, performing at Burning Man, Output, Fusion Festival and Kindish Showcase among others. The overall aesthetic of his material plays off his motto, “tunes are not in a hurry,” a message that urges listeners to slow down and take in the mesmerizing soundscapes he delivers.
