The "MEDUSA Ep" was released by Rodion on Roccodisco and contains two unique gems: "MEDUSA" and "SOLENOID". 
The tracks have now been reworked and dubbed by Alien Alien (the combo of Rodion himself and the DJ Hugosan). The relationship between Rodion and Alien Alien has been indefinable, ever since their "SAMBACA" anthem: osmosis, inspiration, metamorphosis. 
Here Alien Alien take Rodion's electronic glamour vision to a whole different level: slower, dirtier and even druggier. BPMs at around 100... 


MEDUSA - Caribbean Alien Alien dub 
With hypnotic vocals from DJs Pareja (Comeme/Turbo), the original anthem Medusa is fed to the darkest of Caribbean nights, where primitive cumbia, scary voodoo and tribal magic melt into one in a freaky dance ritual.

SOLENOID - Pluviale Alien Alien dub
The pluviale dub of Solenoid carries you into a wet and slow trip: a psychedelic moombaton piece originating from a forgotten sound system somewhere along the Amazon river . 

SOLENOID - Interstellar Alien Alien dub 
The interstellar dub of Solenoid lifts us up through obscure planets and nebulas: hypnotic cosmic dust waves, which ride the tightest of Alien grooves. 

This music is the sound of the mystic on the dance floor, where body and groove become one.

Emotional Especial comes together with Future Nuggets for a “Special” one-off collaboration.  Reinterpreting the music of Steaua de Mare are four remixes from rising (Eastern) stars Khidja and Mehmet Aslan.   

The first in a short series of Especial “Specials” - where new artists are brought together for unique releases - we start by teaming up with Future Nuggets to present again the sonic offshoot in the unique band, Steaua de Mare.  Returning in remix form, songs from their self-titled album, as well as extra additions, are specially reworked.

First Khidja take album track Babadag to new psychedelic depths, adding multiple layers of guitar and synths, all inexhaustibly dubbed and re-dubbed until a whole new track emerges for the more discerning minds.

Next Mehmet Aslan is focused on the dance-floor, carefully reconstructing new track Shop into a club orientated groove, aiming straight at the feet with inevitable results.  On the flip, Mehmet then reworks album highlight, Doamne ce greseala am, amassing tension in careful, subtle ways, crafting a version that is a proper meeting of hearts and minds.

To finish, Khidja return to remix the previously unreleased 1 Septembrie.   Going to great lengths in managing a myriad of details, with balearic, kraut, pseudo-disco and exotica reverberations all pulsating, here then are on point  examples of remix manipulation.  A perfect way to start this series and showcase these wonderful artists.  


B2. 1 Septembrie (Khidja Remix)

Check out the brand new Acid Hamam E.P - Hammok on Tom Tom Disco (@richardrossa), the long awaited follow up on Soul Sirocco from last year. The one that got 10/10 in DJ mag review and got the stamp of approval from artists far and wide.

This release is a bit more lush and melodic, and includes a remix from local producer and DJ partner Victor Norman (Heimlich Music, etc). However, lots of wonkiness to enjoy including funky cumbia, arabic desert blues, Scandinavian poetry and acid-folklore-elements.

Psycho Weazel is a duet based in the beautiful medieval city of Neuchâtel, and let’s not forget that Neuchâtel, despite her wise reputation, was also the very first rave scene of Switzerland in the early 90s. Ivo and Leo aka Psycho Weazel won’t tell you more about it since those young music producers were not even born then! At 23 years old, they are the new sap of the Swiss electronic scene but this EP - which is their fifth release - already shows a surprising maturity. “Ascensao Ao Outro Mundo” and “Marumba”, the two original tracks, illustrate the richness of their music: dark electro textures and Italian disco groove on one side, melodies fed by Latin American and African influences on the other. “Ascensao Ao Outro Mundo” with its long intro that plays on the nerves of the dance floor before exploding in fireworks beats, has for instance also inspired two remixes particularly relentless, by two old European electro wolves. The American-berliner, Curses, and the duet based in Switzerland, In Flagranti, both twisted in their own way the hedonistic message of the original track towards something more perverse and nervous.

With Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, curator Jörg Burger has intensified his vision for this new series of compilations on Kompakt. The music he’s collected here has a unique vibration, perhaps an audio equivalent to the legendary ‘acid Western’ films of the 1960s and 1970s, when the wild frontier logic of the western met the consciousness-altering psychedelia of the counterculture.

‘Velvet Desert Music’ is Burger exploring possibilities: what happens when you extract the essence from genres as diverse as spaghetti Western soundtracks, moody lamp-lit pop, downtempo, Krautrock, minimalism, classic ‘60s psychedelia, and more, and let their scents intermingle, Des Esseintes-style?

On Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, Burger welcomes back old friends - Fantastic Twins, Sascha Funke, Paulor, Rebolledo, Superpitcher, The Novotones – and also introduces some exciting new names, such as Golden Bug and The Limiñanas, Mount Obsidian (aka César Urbina / Cubenx), and Lake Turner. Marcus Schmickler’s Pluramon project appears, remixed by Burger, and Michael Mayer makes his first appearance with “Not So Far Away”.

The ultimate strength of Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, though, is its seamlessness; you’re encouraged to press play, sit back, and listen to the album unfurl as a whole. Much like one of Kompakt’s other compilation series, the legendary yearly Pop Ambient collections edited by Wolfgang Voigt, Velvet Desert Music builds its own psychological environment to inhabit. And as you dig deeper into Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, the music takes on synaesthetic turns, the textures all swirl together, igniting the senses.

Each of the artists share with Burger himself a production style that echoes the cinèma pour l’oreille (cinema for the ear), with luscious sweeps of tone and melody opening out to reveal new vistas, new terrain for the attentive listener. When listening to Velvet Desert Music, think widescreen, think broad brushstrokes, think boldness but with sensual detail. It’s the new frontier music.
