Welcoming our latest guests to the Leisure Club Mixtape series, our long-time favourite funk-folks Video Age from the land of po-boys, jazz clubs and the melting pot of cultures, New Orleans.

Playing music together for the last decade and longtime friends from their early years coming up in the DIY scene, Ross Farbe (vocals/guitar) and Ray Micarelli (drums) began the project with their debut album in 2016 and have been crafting their signature early 80's synth-pop sound with experimentation and collaboration playing an important role in their magic-making recording process. 

Since catching our attention with their second full-length album Pop Therapy back in 2018, it's safe to say we're delighted to have them join us for a quick mixtape after regular inclusions in our Poolside Etiquette playlist over the years. 

We caught up with the dynamic duo on the blog to chat about life, being back on the road and emerging bands to keep an eye on. Stream the mixtape via our SoundCloud and peep the full interview below.

@Get-Down-Edits are Darren 'Daz' Dalton & Martin Roche, they live in their home city of Waterford in Southern Ireland, the duo are tearing it up on dance floors nationally and internationally - supported, played and loved by Greg Wilson, Cosmic Boogie, Dicky Trisco, The Revenge, Kev Beadle, Doc Martin, Pete Herbert, Jacques Renault, Deadly Sins, Ltj Xperience, House Of Disco Records & Rudy's Midnight Machine just to name a few. The lads have released music on other great labels of the disco world such as Disco Deviance, Editors kutz, File under disco, Midnight Riot, Paper disco, Wall of fame & Queen and Disco.

Daz and Martin have progressed from playing local clubnights around Waterford, to hitting the decks every weekend at parties in Cork, Galway, Dublin and Belfast as well as many festivals nationally (Indiependance, Body & Soul, Gateways, Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions) and festivals overseas such as a  Electric Elephant Festival in Croatia, Glastonbury, Liverpool Disco Festival and Brighton Pride festival. Their mixing & production talents have taken the duo to DJ in places as far as London, Liverpool, Leeds, Dundee, Newcastle, Hamburg, Paris, Tel Aviv, Budapest, Brussells, Greece, Italy and a tour of Mexico in 2015.

" For our sixteenth mix for Paradise ULTD we became a bit less focused on our favorite record labels and a bit more artist focused. 

That's not to say we don't wind up representing some of our favorite record labels in this edition. For instance Soul Clap Records, Crew Love Records, Bastard Jazz Records, Boogie Angst, Glitterbox Recordings all have entries from their artist rosters in FSQ Selections 16. 

Related - David Marston - a long time Soul Clap and Crew Love stalwart - makes his debut on heavy dance music hitter Ultra Records with his DejaVilla project. DejaVilla includes vocalist and fellow Jamaican Sarah Couch. 

One of our close friends jokes that sometimes in our FSQ DJ sets we skip all music with words and lyrics !! Well for this mix we found plenty of love for big vocalists - including that sultry cut "Running Away" by DejaVilla; modern funk and nudisco producer Moods' big single "Get To Know You" featuring British chanteuse Pip Millet, and vocalist Adeline who offers up her self released, self titled debut album. Most would know Adeline as Adeline Michele - the lead vocalist of the NY based disco troop Escort. Atlantic Records R&B star Lizzo deserves a turn in this mix too because her new funk laden single "Juice" is indeed so juicy!

Like our friend said about FSQ selections, yes yes, we do lean into instrumental disco edits and left field funky house originals - all without any words at all on these jams. So yes we flip flop around in this mix and do turn right back into the instrumental zone. One instrumental discovery in this mix that came from somewhere - who knows, not a record label - is the self released French jazz house production team simply called HS. HS are also two multi instrumentalists - Herson and Seven - we've included two tracks from HS here; the title track "Mu" from their EP, which is led by brilliant original saxophone lines, and the other "French Riviera" which is all about jazz bass solos over house beats. 

Still on the instrumental front - this mix chugs on with Peter Matson of the NY based afrodisco group Underground System. He debuts solo with "Roma Norte" a real deep house burner on Bastard Jazz. Also his group gets the high energy dub treatment by German producer Gerd Janson on his remix of their "Just a Place" via Soul Clap Records. 

Limpodisco's "Heatwave Affair" - we have no idea where this boogie funk tinged new wave instrumental comes from or if it's even been properly released yet, but it's been a secret weapon in all of our FSQ sets the past several months. We love Limpodisco for both their disco edit work and original production which land squarely on the nudisco front. They hail from Odessa, Ukraine. 

Keep listening to the mix as we zig zag between even more vocal led R&B and nudisco jams and back to deep house instrumentals; FSQ Selections 16 is one of the most favorite mixes we have ever delivered to Paradise ULTD. Full tracklist follows .."  - Chuck Da Fonq

"FSQ Selections edition 17 for Paradise ULTD focuses again on some of our favorite independent dance music record labels.

Midnight Riot Records is a label FSQ has been working with for a few years now, and we are proud to have released our Talking Heads cover of "I Zimbra" featuring Dolette McDonald on the label. 

Midnight Riot is so hot right now we can't keep up with the amount of promo they are sending us. One of our favorite projects they've got right now is Jaegerossa with the Midnight Riot label boss and uber nudisco producer, Yam Who. On mix 17 we play two joyous cuts from the duo, "Grateful" and "Delirium" which are both helmed by vocalist Jacqi George. 

Also on Midnight Riot is the sleek 80s inspired jam called "Dreaming" by Nick Reach Up featuring soulful UK vocalist Jazz Morley. Our friend Birdee also turns a new album for ISM Records - a sister record label in the Midnight Riot Records family; we chose the nudisco burner "Give Into Love" featuring Chloe Amber from Birdee's album. 

Soul Clap is in the mix month debuting their two sider on their new record label - House of EFunk Records. The aptly titled "Jupiter Crush" is a Roland synth laden cut that we put in the mix. 

We can't escape the Wurlitzer - Fender Rhodes sunset house vibes of Session Victim and we feature a remix they did for Goddard and then a cut from their new Delusions of Grandeur records EP. 

Hobo Camp brings us a new EP from the always wonderful Social Lovers; the midnight flavored jam "The Light" is our choice here.

Finally don't miss legend Fonda Rae with her turn signing the hook on Escort's new jam "City Life". Nicki B is Escort's new vocalist, which means Adeline, the former singer from Escort has gone solo. Escort's JKriv rejoins Adeline for a remix of her song "Before".

FSQ Selections Lucky Number 18 for ParadiseULTD covers a lot of ground and is over two hours long. As per usual this time of year as we head into fall, we look back and review our favorite summer Balearic releases, and in fact we offer a special mini set within the mix of these slow motion emotional tunes. 

We speed the ParadiseULTD mix back up with plenty of fresh nudisco and deep house cuts that you may have heard in our last few monthly FSQ Top 10 Charts.
