Once again we are sending a new release of acoustic signals from the collectively-run kindergarten at Berlin's east cross. After a techno focus on the last release, this one is a bit more melodic and housey.

3 QUESTIONS to PETER PARDEIKE:

Q: Listening to your mix offers some really nice goldies and oldies. What do these tracks still mean to you?

A: My mix represents a selection of tracks which influenced me the most from around mid of the eighties till the mid of the nineties. They are the fundament of my todays musical orientation and taste. Like most of the emotional experiences you make when you grow up I am deeply connected with this tunes. They still remind me of how I felt their special energy at that certain time. And this special energy is what I am trying to recreate while working on new tracks in my studio.

Q: You released your music on huge labels yet, such as Innervisions, Suara, Connaisseur. A dream came true?

A: Yes of course! I can still remember the overwhelming feeling holding my first Innervisions release in my hands which I created in collaboration with Marcus Worgull. And I am more than happy that I’ve found a very good home on Connaisseur for my first own release.

Q: You´re working on your album I´ve heard. Tell us more about!

A: Indeed. At the moment I’m working on the album concept and I’m still collecting ideas, sounds and even art and pictures as inspiration. For me an album is something special, I don’t want to put together a collection of club tracks which could have been released as several EPs. I don’t think about single tracks on my album. I think about an overall concept for music and sound divided into sections (tracks), or simply: a musical journey from track to track, from the begin till the end. I know that’s very ambitious but at least I wanna try to get there as close as I can.

Dekmantel regular Matrixxman returns with the third, and final instalment in the Sector series, Part III: Polyphony. In this triptych, the producer from San Fransisco sets out to highlight the key components behind the sounds and style of techno, exploring the range within the confines of a particular limitation. Following Parts I and II, which looked at Rhythm, and Acid, Charles McCloud Duff charters the realm of Polyphony with four, meticulously produced techno tracks, expanding his repertoire of cult, dancefloor music.

Polyphony refers to the simultaneous combining of many notes in a musical sequence. In electronic music, this specifically refers to the role of the synthesiser - such as the Minimoog, ARP Odyssey, which can produce different pitches simultaneously. Polyphony has been an integral characteristic of the genre’s sound for over a quarter of a century, and can be heard in many key records, living a the sonic forefront of these four tracks.

”Sector Series: III Polyphony” provides an exercise in melody and polyphony. Throughout the EP, swaggering rhythms are inter-washed with a sea of multi-melodious, reverberated notation. ‘Initiation’ resonates with the grandiosity, and harsh claustrophobia of early Underground Resistance. ‘Access Granted’, drives hard with pulsing effects, with a dystopic, rhythmic cacophony of euphony. ‘Desert Planet’ plays around with a differing tempo, imagining a more fantastical vision of music, echoing back to earlier Plastikman productions, using a vast sonic spectrum to conjure up a colour palette of alien imagery. ‘Horizon’ rounds things off; a track that builds on minimalism with a progressive composition, allowing the polyphonics to drive the track, harnessing the adept production qualities that Matrixxman has come to be recognised for.

It’s that time of the year again! We will head off to the the other side of the world on the 3rd and 4th of March for the second edition of Dekmantel Festival São Paulo. As a warm-up for this get-together, we’ve asked five South American locals for a special mix. Next up: Brazilian producer Zopelar, who made a fully live mix consisting of new material only.

Pedro Zopelar is known as a whizkid behind the machines, generating unstoppable motion and emotion on the dancefloor. While his music is conveyed through streams of pulsating energy, it also glides through layers of beautiful sounds, carrying us irresistibly within it. It already brought him many places, including to Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo as well as at the helm of São Paulo’s nocturnal avant-garde as one of the artists energizing the ODD collective.

This all evolved into him being a prolific remixer and producer amongst his peers. His reputation put him side by side with likeminded craftsmen and got him the increasing support of discerning music aficionados, also fostering the prolific partnership with Davis, now crowned by their own label In Their Feelings - a haven for the kind of music they adore and love to make.

All of this is showcased in this 70 minutes long mix, consisting of new material only, which Pedro has recorded especially for us. The podcast touches on many different genres and sees Pedro putting together (lo-fi), house, his own take on techno and acid in one mix. Brace yourselves people, we've got ourselves a new talent to watch.
