Working title: "The Machine Has Developed A Paradox / An Error"

Title revised after I finally figured out what it sounded like, and I got to reference one of the best movies of all time in the process.  Win-win.

Demo version, completely unmixed and unmastered (okay, so I did tweak the volumes while working on it, but that's it.)  Lacking my sister's voiceover telling us about the machine developing an error 'cause I don't have a microphone for all that just yet.

This song is when Gears was complete and the pieces fell into place.  With this, I discovered what I wanted to do, and while it is still elusive most of the time, I know who I am, and I knew who I would be with this one.

Working title: "Decrepit Devices"

Demo version, unmixed and unmastered.  This one came second, hot on the heels of "The Machine..." and I am most proud of how it turned out.  At the end of the day, I imagined a post-apocalyptic scene, perhaps after some machine war, with a lone soldier holding a small but deadly weapon.

Inspired in part by John Crichton's breakdown moment that I would snag if I could, just for this one: "Hey honey, guess what I did today? I wore a bomb.  A nuclear bomb, in a field of flowers.  I could get lucky.  Tomorrow, I could get a bigger bomb.  I could kill more people.  Maybe they'll be innocent people.  Children, maybe."

Working Title: "Hazel in Neo York"

Demo version, unmixed and unmastered.

This one was an attempt to switch it up, to show, as Adam Warfield once said, "a little soft side." Inspired in part by Camilla D'errico's "Neo New York" that I opted out of buying in the most recent Comic-Con (and have pined for ever  since), and a friend of mine named Hazal whom I've always believed would feel right at home here in New York.

Also, I had in mind a cyberpunk image, a woman wearing only a man's shirt, wine glass in hand, staring out at the artifical forest as raindrops slide down the slightly-angled window; the neural implant visible on her right temple, blue LED lights flickering as they work up a storm trying to total recall memories.

Original Title: "Cyberia" (also considered: "System Shock")

This was an experiment in many things: trying for a more (psy-trance)ish foundation was one of them.  I adore that bass.  But, the bass, while delish, forced my hand to mix (by swallowing EVERYTHING whole), which forced my hand to try mastering as well.  So this one has an amateur mix and master.  I have no proper monitor headphones, so this'll be revisited once I get those.  I'm still learning to do those two.

As for the inspiration, I've always found SHODAN's characteristic, megolomaniacal insults to be perfect for a cyberpunk-ish track, despite having failed to properly play either of the System Shocks (well, I am playing 2 now...) And those are the copyrighted property of EA, just to be clear.

Demo version.  Mixed a bit better, mastered a bit better I hope (I hope - the previous attempt was a barely-passable mess.)

This one actually took a few months to get to where it wanted to go.  It had chiptunes and shit in it.  It was dance-y.  Bouncy lead and blips and bloops.  Once upon a time.  Now it's this broody little sucker.

I've been using the psytrance drum/bass 4/4 a lot these days, mostly because it can be versatile if you want to, and it goes with pretty much everything.  Besides, they're often so quiet that I'm forced to mix in any element I add, which teaches me a lot.

Oh, by the way, "Resurrection of the Little Match Girl" is a Korean sci-fi action movie, directed by the since-disappeared Jang Sun-woo.  It's one of the stranger movies I've seen, but it's always been dear to me, so I pay homage to it with this one... okay, so I couldn't find a title for it.  Sue me.

This was a sudden song that just came, made itself known, made its mark and then ended.  Title inspired by Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, where a terrorist "group" called the Individual Eleven is at the heart of a complex conspiracy.  I thought the song reflected on the efforts of Section 9 members, the Major especially, well enough to deserve the name.

Hexegear is a solo project.  I borrow from many genres, but I think electronic/industrial is where my loyalties lie.  Most of my formative years were spent with rock and metal; then, I found industrial, and it all branched out from there.  Hexegear contains a lot of what I've heard so far, as well as the rest of me.
