Based in Copenhagen, the half Danish half South Korean musician Schacke has been producing sounds of a large variety of different styles since their early teens. Starting with a background in Metal, Noise, and Industrial, Schacke has continually shown a determination to expand and evolve their universe through the exploration of electronic music. Since moving to Copenhagen around ten years ago, Schacke has run an underground label for experimental music, co-owned and run the legendary Mayhem venue in Copenhagen, and released music under a variety of different aliases on local and international labels.
As one of the original members of the Fast Forward collective and agency, Schacke has played a significant role in shaping and defining what has become known as the ‘’Copenhagen Techno Sound’’, which they helped pioneer with their first two techno records on the now-defunct Ectotherm label between 2015-2017 started by Mama Snake and Courtesy. Schacke is also a resident DJ and event organizer at the famous queer sex parties by feminist porn production company ‘’Bedside Productions’’.
Schacke draws inspiration from a wide range of different genres, usually using techno as only a template to explore and make genre bending fusions using a mixture of unlikely sources. With the combination of hard-hitting beats and rolling baselines, usually mixed with catchy leads and euro vocals, their tracks are always bound together with a precise execution of delicately layered textures, making Schacke’s techno distinctly recognizable yet strangely unpredictable.

XXL Invites 053 | Alex Wilcox

Alex Wilcox is an American music producer and DJ based in Berlin.

He recently burst onto the scene when Anetha discovered his sizzling banger “Sleep Paralysis” which led to his Mama Told Ya EP titled - “It’s Okay to Cry.” As reviewed by Resident Advisor, this “oddball” techno release was quickly played by Nina Kraviz, Ellen Allien, Mama Snake, Francois X, and countless others at Berghain, Fusion Fest, Ultra, and too many others to list.

The release caught the attention of label heads around the world, eventually leading to his recent EP “Always” released on Nina Kraviz’s label Trip Recordings.  This EP expanded on Alex’s deep and multi-faceted musical background - showcasing surgical, banging, hooky techno that pushed boundaries and is being played by SPFDJ, Bjarki, Patrick Mason, Anetha, Salome, AADJA, u.r. Trax, and many more. 

His influences are dramatic, ranging from working at Underground Resistance HQ in Detroit with Mike Banks, setting up microphones for Tyler, the Creator in Hollywood, to assisting Platinum-selling pop producer Pinkslip in Los Angeles.  

Alex was quickly brought out of the studio to make his Berlin debut at Ellen Allien’s infamous “We Are Not Alone” party. In the past year he has started to light up the club circuit - playing at Pal (Hamburg), Nexus (Paris), La Belle Électrique (Grenoble), Weeeirdos (Berlin), Echo Recordings (Groningen, NL) and many other spots.

His sets feature only his own productions and can be described as a genre-less chaotic whirlwind involving hard cuts, numerous BPM changes and existential theatrical moments.

2023 is looking bright as Alex  gears up to open for Charlotte de Witte in Paris and to release more ambitious musical projects - expanding his universe of unique, progressive, bombastic, catchy, and surreal club music.

For this episode and for the followings, I wanted to give the floor to some artists I admire and respect a lot. I believe everyone has ideas, a voice, opinions they want to fight for. MFC 34 : LOCKHART - Fuck the tories

With playing experience to rival those in the game for decades, a residency in FOLD under her belt, and a famously huge arsenal of explosive tracks, Lockhart is one of the most exciting artists in the UK right now. 

The born-and-raised East Londoner learnt to mix with footwork, breaks and UK techno, but it was experimental club music where Lockhart found her feet and its influence is still seen today in her intense-yet-playful sets. Experiences in Berlin and London exposed her to the darker sounds of dance music, which swayed her own style, and led to her focusing on the raw, heavier side techno that she now plays with great success, although don’t be fooled into thinking this is all you’ll get. Given the chance Lockhart leans into her vast collection with gusto, expertly bending genres around each other to enthrall and entrance the mind.

Her self-assured aura quickly spreads through crowds, instilling a bond of trust that remains throughout her time in the booth. Never far away from her sets is her mischievous grin that accompanies her dark, trance-infused melodies, whilst she toys with the crowd. Lockhart doesn’t play to them - she plays with them. Knowing precisely what actions will get the desired reactions, the crowd are her puppets, and Lockhart is their mistress.

For this mix, she wanted to raise awareness about the current cost-of-living crisis in England and the impact it has on mental health. 

LOCKHART: “For 13 years the UK has suffered at the hands of the Conservative government.  We have seen drastic austerity measures to reduce public spending, leading to cuts to essential services like healthcare, education, and social welfare. These cuts have had a disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, disabled, and low-income families. 

As a result, our NHS is under intense strain, resulting in longer waiting times for appointments, reduced quality of care and constant strikes as workers struggle to get fair pay for the insurmountable workloads they are expected to shoulder. Income inequality in the UK is now at its highest level since the 1960s. We are in the midst of a major housing crisis - with rising rents, soaring house prices, and a shortage of affordable housing. 

This cost-of-living crisis is having a significant impact on mental health, particularly for those who are already vulnerable or struggling with existing mental health conditions. I myself (and many of my peers) feel this pressure constantly and it can be extremely hard to keep your head above water on any given day, lending every ounce of energy just to make ends meet and not drown in financial despair. At times like this it is so important that we acknowledge the need to seek help, yet our services are failing, and private options are out of reach. Fondé en 2021, le collectif prône une fête sexy et safe, où le jugement et les discriminations n’ont pas leur place. Les photos étant naturellement interdites, c’est autour de projet artistiques et photographiques que la communauté Kink développe son langage visuel et esthétique. L’esprit « kink » y côtoie des notions d’intimité, d’acceptation de soi et de l’Autre, le tout dans une atmosphère tantôt punk, tantôt poétique.
