I have never really been a big Whitesnake fan until early 2010 when my former bandmate Nick “Blaster” Hansen lent me the Whitesnake DVD “Live: In The Still Of The Night”. It opened up my eyes to how much of an awesome vocalist David Coverdale is, and how cool Whitesnake songs actually are. I quickly became obsessed with the live version of “Here I Go Again” from the DVD. It’s a lot heavier than the original 80’s album version, and I began singing it to myself all the time.

It didn’t take me long to decide to record my own version of the song, just for fun. I based my version on the live one I’d come to like so much. I kept it pretty similar to Whitesnake’s, but added my own little touches here and there, and changed the ending to my liking. I also made sure the keyboard sound was really huge.

The recording was done in bits and pieces, because unfortunately I hardly find the time to get into the studio. I eventually finished off the song in May 2010, and proudly stuck it on Facebook to show my friends.

"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (also called "Long Cool Woman" or "Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)") is a song written by Allan Clarke, Roger Cook, and Roger Greenaway and performed by the British pop group The Hollies. Originally appearing on the album Distant Light, it was released as a single by Epic Records on 17 May 1972 in the United States and in July 1972 on Parlophone in the United Kingdom.

Background & Recording

On the day "Long Cool Woman" was recorded at AIR Studios, the group's producer, Ron Richards, was ill and, as a result, the song was produced by the group. The song is different from most Hollies' songs in that there are no three-part vocal harmonies, and the song features guitar work by Allan Clarke. Upon his return, Ron Richards mixed the recording.[1]
According to Clarke, the song was written "in about five minutes". When the song made its mark in America, Clarke had already left the band; but, Clarke feels that "it wasn't unfortunate", since he had written the song.

Cover versions

-Country music singer Clint Black released his version of the song to country radio on 19 February 2008, under the title "Long Cool Woman". Black's version charted on the Hot Country Songs chart at #58.

-Another country music singer, T. G. Sheppard covered the song on his 1997 album Nothin' On but the Radio.

-Heavy metal rocker Vince Neil released a heavier version of Long Cool Woman, along with other covers and original material, on his third studio album, Tattoos & Tequila on 22 June 2010.
