This song is split into two perspectives, a teenage boy and girl who have been outcast in many ways in their lives, leading up to a life changing event for both of them. The teenagers are a metaphor for
people that have been excluded and more importantly misunderstood and unheard. This message is important to me because I have seen so many people being labelled throughout their lives and whenever they’re in an unfortunate situation they’re judged and blamed rather than seen as the victims that they at least initially were. I called the song ‘Sidelines’ as to me it’s the place where outcast people find themselves, it can be literal or metaphorical. I want people to recognise that they can literally change the course of somebody’s life just by understanding them.
