The Ominous Murk

'Soul music - 'A music genre that is all about 'punch-you-in-the-gut' emotion...'

My first conceptual 'beat tape' of sorts. Designed to emulate the recorded sounds of the genre which originated in popular music back in the 1950s and lasted on through to the 1970s.

Compiling a collected collage of cut n paste sound culture show-casing the beauty, depth and sheer brilliance of the soul/northern soul recordings of old.

Working on a level of 'Remix' style if refashioning what already existed, working in many different ways on many different levels, yet still applying my personality to what I have available.

"The creation of this LP for me was a real 'labour of love' so to say. Something I've always wanted to make. I have a real fond connection with listening to soul music. The Artists of the day, the amazing chart-topping albums of the time and the many great songs to have come from that era.

I've always had a project like this in mind. To really just dig deep and carve out my own versions of what I wanted to hear, conscious hip-hop beat infused Soul tapes".

The CHAMELEONIC EP is an extended play release consisting of 5 improvised MIDI sequenced tracks. All played live without the use of a sequencer. Created using the Korg Monologue and Korg Minilogue analogue synthesizers and a Roland TR-8 drum machine. Ran through outboard effects pedals Eventide Space, June-60 Chorus, Boss Digital Delay and Moog MiniFooger Signal Boost.

This track is dedicated to the life and memory of iconic Music Producer 'J Dilla, aka Jay Dee (James D. Yancey)'

This is a special single beat release honouring the legendary producer/MC on the 15th Anniversary of his death. February 10th 2006.

As a pure fanatic and devoted follower of all this man's music, raw talent and never ending beat producing inspiration. This is the least I could do in dedication to my fallen hero.

The whole track is a head-nod to sample flipping and is all made from samples. With the only exception being the bass lines, to which are my own and written by me.
