Unser erster Poddy in 2022 kommt vom Kölner DJ-Duo Cosmic Dance, das sich aus Désirée Jolie und Monotrack zusammensetzt.

1. Welche Musikrichtung hatte den größten Einfluss auf euch und wie seid ihr zur elektronischen Musik gekommen?

Désirée: Ich war schon als Kind von elektronischer Musik fasziniert, jedoch hörte ich bis zum 18. Lebensjahr alles Mögliche. Dann fing ich an, mich für Techno zu interessieren, hörte aber auch gerne entspanntere Genres wie Deep- und Tech House. Zwischendurch hatte ich der elektronischen Musik sogar mal kurz den Rücken zugewandt, um dann aber wieder von ihr in den Bann gezogen zu werden. 

Monotrack: Zur elektronischen Musik bin ich durch meinen besten Kumpel Niclas gekommen. Am meisten beeinflusst wurde ich durch Len Faki und seinen minimalistischen Techno-Style, da dieser meinem Ohr am meisten Aufmerksamkeit abverlangte.
 
2. Wie kam es dann zum Auflegen und Produzieren?

Monotrack: Musik spielte für mich seit 2015 eine immer größere Rolle, da sie für mich wie eine Therapie für mein Wohlbefinden wirkte. 2016 begann ich, mir mein eigenes DJ-Equipment zu besorgen und brachte mir dann selber in den Monaten und Jahren das Auflegen bei. Mit dem Produzieren beschäftige ich mich seit 2019. 

Désirée: Seit ich Techno höre, habe ich mich fürs Auflegen interessiert, da auch einige Freunde von mir DJs waren. Jedoch kam es erst Mitte 2020 dazu, dass ich wirklich damit angefangen habe. Monotrack hat mir auf einer Party das Auflegen beigebracht und wir haben sofort acht Stunden lang zusammen ein B2B gespielt. Es hat von Anfang an zwischen uns harmoniert. Mit dem Produzieren habe ich gerade erst angefangen. 
 
3. Wie würdet ihr euren Sound beschreiben?

Der Sound, den wir zusammen spielen, würden wir als atmosphärischen, melodischen Electro bezeichnen. Jedoch legen wir uns nicht auf ein Genre fest.
 
4. Habt ihr Lieblingskünstler?

Désirée: Julian Wassermann, Township Rebellion, Ron Flatter, Monkey Safari, Nils Hoffman, Dubfire, Maceo Plex, um ein paar zu nennen.

Monotrack: Ich verehre viele Künstler für ihre erbrachten Leistungen. Wenn ich mich aber entscheiden muss, dann für Eric Sneo, da er meinen absoluten Lieblings-Track „Cosmic Dance“ produziert hat, den ich unglaublich finde. 

5. Erzählt uns zum Abschluss noch etwas über Serotonin?

Serotonin wurde von Monotrack zusammen mit seinem Kumpel Niclas Mitte 2020 gegründet. Seit Ende 2020 wird jeden Mittwoch ein Podcast veröffentlicht, der durch sein einzigartiges Cover heraussticht. Neben unseren Veranstaltungen im Domhof, haben wir auch ein eigenes Label namens Serotonin Music gegründet. Hier haben wir schon ein experimentelles Album von Monotrack veröffentlicht. Unsere Idee ist es nicht nur, musikalische Vielfalt zu präsentieren, sondern den Menschen, die uns folgen, auch eine Plattform der künstlerischen Entfaltung zu bieten.

Podcast #96: Cosmic Dance (Serotonin)

Visiting Hamburg is always a special thing for me. Gängeviertel, hanseatische Materialverwaltung, the people of Karl Kutter and: @suedpol-hamburg, the crazy bunch thats also behind Tanzwüste at Fusion. 

A lot of my understanding of rave and community goes back to these places. Man - I was even there, when G20 turned everything upside down. 

Thats why I'm always thankful and relieved, when I get back there and these little islands of resistance still exist and fight back. Though it's getting harder by the day.

Now a dream came true and I was asked to play at the notourish Südpol. Saturday to Sunday night, Oben from 04-07 in the morning. Together with @urem, @Lisbird & @hovrmusic and many other friends we packed our stuff and got on our way. 

I'm super happy to share with you the experience of this 3h Expedition! Thanks to the very zornige Crowd which stayed till the bitter end and gave all they got! And thanks @baskind who played a crazy closing set after me!

3 QUESTIONS TO BRITTA ARNOLD:

Q: As the festival summer is already gone now: which was the biggest „night to remember“ for you?

 A: I had a lot of big nights. For example the Fusion Festival as I played on the main stage („Turmbuehne“) and it was so amazing! Still getting goosebumps when I think back on it. And for sure the Garbizc Festival in Poland was a highlight too aswell as the Kater birthday at KaterBlau Berlin. I really had a perfect festival summer with crazy nights and days.


Q: Which was the track that inspired you most the past years?

A: Oh there were so many great tracks from great artists. Denis Horvat is one of the best for me. Actually I love all of his productions, especially „Flawless“ and „Cedevita“. Also I´m a big fan of the productions from Sascha Cawa and Marcus Meinhardt. 

Q: After having your latest single release on KaterMukke this year - what´s coming up next?

A: End of October 2015 there will be a Heinz Music Compilation and I’m proud to be a part of it. Also I finished an EP with Lee Jones and I´m working on a new Katermukke release with Sascha Cawa and Dirty Doering. Other tracks are finished too but I´m not sure yet where they will be released.

With support from some of the most respected names across dance music, from Pete Tong to B. Traits and Kølsch, Kris Davis' reputation may currently be ascending, but it’s always been an unusual musical journey for the Isle of Wight native.

Originally indebted to the sound of grunge and punk, the typically rebellious aesthetic of a young life lived on a somewhat isolated island, Davis’ taste headed in a typically more electronic direction over the years, from hard house to experimental and ambient music. Whether grafting away optimistic years in bands or taking hard-earned moments away from shift work, dedicating late nights and early mornings to his home studio, Davis’ sound has always persevered with a raw, emotional quality.

The past few years have seen Davis find deserved acclaim for a string of production and remixes that put those delicate songwriting and production skills centre stage, not only combining a timeless analog touch with a keen ear for the limitless possibilities of modern production, but a powerful sense of rhythm that will both define and transcend a contemporary dancefloor.

In 2016 alone, his brooding, uncompromising ‘Delta’ EP on UK label Needwant has earned much play and plaudits for its vital combination of offbeat electronica and big room techno, which DJ Mag rightly praised for its “shimmering intensity.” Meanwhile, his two track ‘Aura’ EP on Alex Niggemann’s Soulfooled imprint, a much-respected outpost for fresh talent, found Davis on even greater melodic and melancholy form, a style also flawlessly showcased on another ecstatically received release, ‘Bleak’, on Christian Loffler’s ‘Young Alaska’ label. Meanwhile, his remix of Jerome Isma-Ae’s ‘Fiction’ on Jee Productions effortlessly inspires open-minded clubbers, long after it’s original release.

Aus musikalischen Weggefährten sind nicht selten nachhaltige Freundschaften entstanden, welche trotz eines großen Entfernungsunterschieds weiterhin fortbestehen und für die wir sehr dankbar sind. An vielen Orten auf dieser Welt mit offenen Armen empfangen zu werden - mit der Musik als einzige Verbindung - ist einfach überwältigend. Im Rahmen unserer Möglichkeiten unterstützen wir vielfältige Projekte, die in diesen herausfordernden Zeiten nicht nur den Erhalt der Club Szene fördern, sondern auch persönliche Existenzen sichern. 

🗯🗯 Wie ist die Situation bei Euch? 🗯🗯

Tatsächlich entspannt, denn wir sind wohl auf. Derzeit steht unser zweites Release auf Deep Stories in den Startlöchern und der Vorverkauf auf Beatport hat bereits begonnen. Wir blicken gespannt in die Zukunft, auch wenn wir - aufgrund unser beiden Vollzeit Jobs abseits der Musik - gelegentlich mit langsamerem Tempo voranschreiten müssen. Wir hoffen im nächsten Jahr unsere erfolgreiche Veranstaltungsreihe Reihe, als auch unsere Release Partys fortsetzen zu können.

Uns ans Herz gewachsene Clubs in unserer Umgebung bangen um ihre Existenz, streichen teilweise elektronische Musik aus ihrem Programm - wir können es nur auf uns zukommen lassen und abwarten, auf welcher Tanzfläche wir wieder zum Tanz bitten können
