Stamp Mix 32:  Al Dobson Jr

Presenting the second digital single taken from Crooked Man’s forthcoming, future-facing Transmission Towers remix album, Crooked Transmissions. Served up here are two completely reimagined, dancefloor reworks, of ‘My Shadow’ and ‘Mega’. A club-crafted double header that harnesses a lifetime’s worth of experience and expertise from one of dance music’s understated icons, Crooked Man. 

Released on Luke Una’s É Soul Cultura label, in partnership with Mr Bongo, Crooked Man aka Richard Barratt has been handed the keys to Transmission Towers’ critically acclaimed debut LP, Transmission One. The result is a mind-bending hit of tripped-out transcendence from a key figure in electronic dance music’s history. Having released one of bleep techno’s defining records in ’89, under the alias Sweet Exorcist with Richard H. Kirk, Barratt has put out a slew of standout productions under a variety of different monikers. From Crooked Man and Parrot, to Earth Angel and Athletes of God, he has released on DFA, delivered countless remixes for Róisín Murphy and reimagined the likes of JIM and Joe Goddard. 
 
For this release, ‘My Shadow (Crooked Shade)’ sees Crooked Man morph the original into a firestarter of galactic proportions. The crunched-up breakbeat drives the journey and flips what was once a hallucinatory machine soul number, into an intoxicating slice of club-focussed heat from another dimension. Spiralling pads and astral synths coil around Eleanor Mante’s reverberating vocals, as your body is willed to move in a trancelike state of cosmic motion.  

‘Mega’ is moulded into an interplanetary tribal march. A battle cry from the far reaches of the cosmos, Eleanor leading the charge as her vocals swirl across the ether, backed up by ominously booming synths. Crooked Man then then hits with a robo-vocoder response, flipping the script into a part ethereal, part commanding journey between the galaxies. Filled with head-spinning top notes, space-echoed stabs and a driving drumbeat, the track collapses down into an exploding star of synthesis that provides a portal into Crooked Man’s mind.

Transmission Towers - My Shadow (Crooked Shade)

Hookermusicman presents a fusion of electro, nu-disco, and deep house, delivering an underground vibe that resonates with electronic music enthusiasts. The release showcases remixes by Super Days, who adds his unique touch to the tracks, blending his personal style with Hookermusicman's original production.
