Cyphon is proud to bring you brand new music from one of Europe’s pioneers of techno and IDM; Stefan Robbers aka Terrace and Florence. His early releases for Djax-Up-Beats and his own Eevo Lute Muzique in the early 90’s were hugely influential striking a sweet spot between stark minimalism, majestic analogue lushness and dance floor grooves. In more recent years his own reinterpretation of the Detroit sound can be found on the highly regarded Dutch label Delsin.

Here on his Thermionic EP Terrace sings out with such intensity that minds are blown. Listen to the brutal, exhilarating sequences of Territorial, which leads the new EP, and you will receive that message loud and clear. While the music is as much about the consequence of soulful depth, it is also about edgy machines communicating intimately. Delving into a more insightful breakdown of the artist’s genius process you can also hear how sweet chords fuse and then contrast with grainy Acidic sonics, leaving the tempo poised at an irresistible pace like all our futures depended on it. Complex yet not overly complicated there is an emotional directness pitched between the artist and audience that typifies all exceptional music. Such is the case evidently here and now.

As you move next onto the more subtle electro pulse of Thermon, shimmering keys dance around a frame by frame remembrance of robotic disco in the 23rd century. Again, each layer sizzles with the spark of electricity energising the atmospheres while continuously constructing worlds of dangerous discourse, fuelled only by the white-hot energy of the discotheque.

The uplifting brilliance of Woodward follows filling the void with an explosion of colour that is all about life-affirming instrumentation, hitting you fast and loose with a cascade of arpeggios, tough drums plus an incendiary surge of melodic distraction causing the airwaves to crackle with celebration.

Completing this stunning release from Terrace are the fierce, hotwired grooves forged by Ritual, conjuring up endless combinations of an analogue model rediscovered. The sheer dancefloor animation found within each of Terrace’s productions on this EP purposefully point to and enhance Cyphon Recordings own mission to explore, propelling the emphasis forever forwards.

Pioneering NYC house label Nu Groove Records is proud to unveil a four-track EP of originals from fellow NYC house legend Jovonn.

After nearly three decades without a release, the cult house label relaunched in 2021 spearheaded by none other than Jovonn with ‘Random / Get Over It’. Following his ‘Funn Houze EP’ released earlier in 2023, the Brooklyn native is back with his ‘Blaque Katt EP’, a masterful display of innate musicality combined with an affinity for roaring ’90s-inspired club music.

For the lead, ‘The Piano Fix’, Jovonn creates a dichotomy between the delicate nature instrument and the heavy, sweaty feel of the dancefloor. This is followed by a harder pianistic technique in both ‘The Piano Fix Returns’ and ‘Let Me Tell You Somethin’, showcasing the producer’s flair for harmony and melody.

Closing the immersive collection is ‘Drop That Traxx’, a playful track featuring addictive, syncopated hooks over a pounding four-on-the-floor beat. Throughout the EP, Jovonn displays his talent for gritty, hard music made with tender care.

This series has been all about label head Jamie Jones exploring the darker side of the dance floor. It has offered up a wealth of exciting new production talents, each with their own distinctive sound and now, for one last time, that is the case again here.

Dennis Quin is first up and is a fast-rising Dutch talent who does it all from thumping tech to deep house on labels like Defected, Dungeon Meat, and Solid Grooves. His 'Keep Your Head Up' featuring Zoë Phillips is a silky house cut with slick, punchy drums but lithe synths that bring the soul. It has a classic edge but a future twist in the cosmic pads and makes for irresistible dancing.

Italian house and tech man Pakkio Sans has made his name with big tunes on labels like Endless and here offers 'Spirit Lead Me'. It is a fresh cut with bobbing drums and bass perfectly interweaving beneath funky synth patterns and swinging claps. It's the sort of warm and heartfelt cut to glide floors to the next level.

Last of all is Barcelona-based Italian Gianni Firmaio, owner of Mushroom Smile Records and a producer for labels like elrow Music and VIVa MUSiC. His 'Chief' is a chunky and tribal sound with bright synth stabs and plenty of percussive detail. It's dynamic and embellished with great vocal samples and twisted pads that ramp up the energy.

This is a classy final edition of this vital series.

John Monkman shot firmly into the limelight in 2015 with his collaboration with Pete Tong, plus a remix of Solomon Grey’s Twilight, which topped the Beatport charts reaching #1. He has since gone on to do more collaborations with Pete Tong and released on some the world’s biggest and most cutting-edge labels including Kompakt, Crosstown Rebels and Get Physical, which have all received high critical acclaim and support across the board. 2016 also saw him launch his own label Beesemyer Music. 2017 will be a standout year for Monkman, with music already signed to Rebellion, Crosstown Rebels, Noir and the fourth collaboration with Pete Tong in the pipeline. Expect to see big things from this London-based artist.
