A recusant Catholic turned Protestant, a rake turned priest, a scholar, lawyer, politician, soldier, secretary, sermonizer, and of course, a poet— John Donne’s biography contains so many scuttled identities and discrete lives, perhaps its no wonder that his great subjects were mortality and death. His Holy Sonnets, likely composed between 1609 and 1610, and published posthumously in 1633, are a collection of 19 poems written after the sea change in Donne’s subject matter from the secular to the sacred. They reflect his anxiety over his conversion to Anglicanism and his eventual decision to enter the priesthood, and meditate on salvation, death, and the wages of sin. Erin &amp; Wes discuss Sonnet 10 in this series, “Death Be Not Proud,” an address of Death personified, whose power gradually diminishes beneath the force of Donne’s dazzling poetic rhetoric. Described as ‘deep, dark and groovy’ Italian duo Ideo & Fax make their Smash Deep debut alongside Mexico City upcomer Alure on sultry collaborative hit ‘Takeoff’ featuring Lacey. 

On first spin, ‘Takeoff’ draws a curious tension with dominant low chords that set the tone for Lacey’s effortlessly cool vocals to enter. The topline tells a lusting story and naturally the track follows suit by picking up the tempo, introducing a soulful bassline and setting about some flirtatious deep house grooves. ‘Takeoff’ perfectly captures the hazy late-night vibes of an intimate club setting and is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser on the dancefloor. 

Formed of Davide Amodeo and Ettore Favatà, Ideo & Fax are a promising DJ and producer outfit headed for success on the global dance circuit. Davide coming from an urban and hip-hop musical background, and Ettore rooted in classic and melodic music, the two in cohesion export richly influenced electronic beats which is a savvy star-quality heard in ‘Takeoff.’

Meanwhile, one-to-watch Alure brings his bounding enthusiasm and fresh skillset to the mix. The former footballer has already locked in signings with respected imprints Soave, Deep Universe and Magic Records and caught the attention of big-gun DJ/producer Ben Nicky.
