Our dear friend Lakej opens our new ambient mix series with a very emotional and atmospheric set. With a background in visual arts and graphic design, his way led him to electronic music and techno. He makes a wonderful contribution to the scene with his deep driving drums, intricate texture, futuristic and timeless sounds. You will find his tracks in labels such as Semantica, Edit Select, and other known labels.

Today we share the second episode of our ambient series Whispers.

Thanks to the influences of Buddhism though Ilenkas family, and alternative schools in her childhood, her creativity was encouraged early on, and nature was brought close. For her, music and art have always been an important part of her life. In the last seven years, she developed a love for organic electronic, ambient, and hypnotic music. Ilenka is co-founder and art director of Hypnaughtic, where she does all the graphics, and has been screwing around with Model Cycles for some time now. Today she presents an ambient set that embody the many different emotions we all go through.

High above the stars, where the wind no longer blows and silence envelops the universe, rises a mountain of angular rock - ancient and lonely in the endless darkness. Its peaks stretch out and touch the light of past suns. It listens to the whispers of distant galaxies and the mesmerising cosmic storms that Re:Axis brings to our ears.

José Diogo Correia aka Re:Axis started his journey in sound at young age, perceiving the vibrations from acoustic and electronic instruments as a tool to create space and travel within. He has released music and toured the world since 2006. It was the year he set the love intentions to share, connect and get inspired through energy and frequencies. All the experience and maturity acquired over the past makes him a unique artist of the dance music scene, whose musical development we have been following for a long time. So we are more than delighted to have the chance to host him and his music on our imprint. 

Re:Axis provides us with a mix that skilfully combines repetitive, hypnotic patterns with mystical and cosmic atmospheres, all underlined with a special psychedelic twist. He stays true to his name and manifests a real sound mantra - a steady movement around a central axis that is constantly changing and yet remains stable. The music becomes a rotation, a trance, a journey that leads both into the inner self and into the boundless outer space.

I dont often share recordings from my longer club sets but Open Ground is somewhere i instantly felt comfortable and I enjoyed these 6 hours so much that I felt compelled to share them with you.

“My mission is to explore the boundaries of psychedelic music.” The revered artist talks about expanding consciousness, breaking boundaries and his new album on Tresor. 

There has always been a strain of dance music that has leant psychedelic, from the left field psychoacoustics of pioneers like La Monte Young to the proggy techno taking over today's dance floors. One artist who embodies the spirit of psychedelia is Anthony Child—AKA Surgeon—a revered DJ and producer who has historically been placed in the world of industrial techno, but whose output over the years has consistently flirted with altered states of consciousness and a strong opposition to the mainstream.

 Child is originally from Birmingham, where he and Karl O'Connor, AKA Regis, helped birth a style of powerful, loop-driven techno. Together they've put out music as British Murder Boys and released music on O'Connor's label Downwards Records. But they've had equally successful solo careers, with Child putting out several releases on Tresor and performing live improvised electronics as Surgeon and as part of ambient listening duo The Transcendence Orchestra.

In this interview, Child talks about his most recent release on Tresor, the album Shell~Wave, and its innovative use of techniques associated with Jamaican dub. He also discusses the throughline of psychedelia in his work and what it means to surrender oneself to sometimes uncomfortable processes—both creatively and in life—and come out the other side. There are strong links to spirituality and Buddhism in Child's work, many of which are designed to prompt listeners to question and reconsider the boundaries they've set around the reality they live in.
