I created this album of instrumental electronic music for the February 2023 RPM Challenge. I had fun making it.

Ami Rae recently uploaded a weird and (to me) disorientating video of a band playing Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer as heard from the back of a building in an unnamed town.  On the original video, a car dopplered by at least once adding to to the ambience of the band recording.

I have no idea who the band is or where they were playing and it took me a few listens to realize they were even playing the well known xmas standard.  The atmosphere of the video reminded me of a weird out take from a David Lynch film and I immediately asked Ami if I could get the recording and start experimenting.

Ultimately the experiment didn't work out as well as I hoped it would.  As I was playing around with the recording i got stuck with a shoegazy guitar riff that wasn't even played on a guitar, but a synth.  I added a couple more synth riffs and some very muted drum machine parts (which ultimately expose my limitations as a drum machine programmer).  

Initially I was going to try and clean up the sound and isolate the vocals of the band's singer.  But the more I worked on it the more I got into the idea of making everything more muted, muffled and lo-fi.  For some reason it put me in mind of Iggy Pop's track 'Nightclubbing' from 'The Idiot'. even though it sounds nothing like that in reality.

So here is my flawed experiment Ami, an unknown band rehearsing their unknown song called Ottonwood Sitor Cethep as captured by a covert listener standing outside at the back of the building on a handheld recorder.

Getting back to exploring Logic 11. 
I played the chords and chord sequence into Logic to populate the chord track and manipulated the session players to follow along, more or less.
