Seattle-based artist La Mala Noche began her musical journey in 2012. After a decade of playing vinyl, she decided to embrace the digital age to incorporate her Mexican and Latin heritage into her selections. As Latin music emerged, La Mala Noche and her mentor, Papito Peace, identified that this was missing within the Seattle Electronic and Underground scene. Driven by a passion for advancing Latin Club culture in the Pacific Northwest, the duo took the initiative to bring this forward through their party, Sazón Seattle. This environment showcases emerging talent in Global Dance Music, particularly inviting artists with Latin and Hispanic identities, while providing a space for music lovers to connect, celebrate, learn, and create unforgettable memories together. Creating this space has positioned La Mala Noche as a leader in introducing emerging genres like Latin Core and Uwuaracha to the dance floor, enhancing her role as a cultural connector between Latin America and the Pacific Northwest. She’s uniting communities through her music and transporting her audience through time and space, evoking the warmth of home, culture and the future.

This month’s edition of ‘One Nation Under A Groove’ features a guest mix from JPB (@stupenndus). JPB is a DJ based in Louisville, KY who, along with SDDP (@sddp_deej), hosts Daydreams (@daydreamsradio) on The Face Radio (@thefaceradiobk) every other Saturday from 2-4 pm EST. He also works at Better Days (@betterdaysrecords), the legendary record store in Louisville. Since 2023, JPB has been working to build a contemporary house/techno/jungle DJ section by bringing in 12”s from all over the US.

She’s been taking her high-energy sets around the world to Glastonbury, supporting Loyle Carner on his US tour. The diverse selections feature a bass-led blend of Kuduro, Dembow, Afro House and Global Bass. Lets catch up…

Recently I’ve been playing a bunch of really great shows with my band, and working on a few remixes that’ll be out this summer. I’ve also been enjoying a (slight) lull in my tour schedule which has meant more time with friends!

Last Friday, I DJed at Outra Cena in Lisbon for a Numa High party. The Tascam recording is being mastered at the moment so—just for you—I’ve re-recorded part of my set, from the comfort of my lovely bedroom.

The party was a celebration of people and music from the African diaspora, so I featured a lot of Batida, Kuduro, Baile Funk and Afro House. Just serving up my usual mix of global dance sounds really—giving people a taste of what to expect at my upcoming shows, as well as showing off tunes I heard during my trip to Brazil earlier this year.

Olas Perpich is a well known west coast party wizard who has been a part of various event spaces and scenes over the last decade, namely as the founder of BAMF! (Bellingham Arts & Music Festival) a multi-day diverse local-to-Bellingham music and camping event that pulled 1000 plus attendees in 2017-2019, with the most recent rendition in 2022. While the festival has been on hiatus the last few years, Olas has taken the time to continue honing his own diverse creative endeavors including his numerous playful music aliases including the dark and brooding PRPTR8R; the high voltage and ecstatic Perpetual Motion, or the ethereal and liminal Ambeyoncé; but this mix is just Olas being himself, playing what usually moves him - mostly deep, soulful, and groove-centric solid-foundational house.

Nahual's journey as a DJ began in the early 2000s, rooted in the vibrant dance floors of Mexico, where he first came onto the scene as a go-go dancer in various discotheques and even took part in the iconic Love Parade Mexico 2002. After that, he started DJing at friends’ parties, mixing tracks on a Denon CD player—sharing beats, building vibes, and falling even deeper in love with the craft.

A lifelong melómano, music has always been Nahual's passion and compass. Three years ago, he returned to the decks—this time behind the turntables—reviving the old school art of mixing vinyl. His style blends timeless grooves and underground gems that he's discovered over the years, with one mission: to get people moving.

The intro to the mix features audio clips about Marvin Gaye as a way of grounding the set in something timeless and meaningful. His voice, especially from 'What’s Going On', captures a deep sense of struggle, love, and social awareness that still resonates today. This tone is meant to go beyond just beats toward something that invites reflection and emotion before the journey of the mix really begins. The mix is meant to connect the past and present and reminding us that music can heal, question, and inspire all at once.

La Gitana grew up in Chicago, Illinois and was always surrounded by Chicago House Music.

In her teens she discovered Juke at parties being thrown around the city.

She’s always been interested in exploring different kinds of music, but didn’t get into DJing until
early 2021, when she had a lot of time on her hands during the pandemic and finally decided to dive in.

She considers herself to be an open format DJ, always exploring and playing whatever feels
true to her at the moment, drifting between Juke, Jungle, House and Minimal Techno.

Her first gigs were at vintage markets and then later at small music venues and bars around the city.

After a few years of DJing she started a small music collective/event-series called Evolution
Orange with the intention to create a safe space for empowerment, creativity and togetherness.

And she’s been DJing and throwing events ever since.

Originally from the Basque Country (Spain), and now settled in Seattle (U.S.), Allen Legorburu is a multi genre DJ and producer whose music reaches a really wide and diverse spectrum, from the most Ambient-Chill-Downtempo sounds all the way to a much more dancy flavours such as deep house, techno, breaks and many other avenues of electronic and non electronic music.
