Episode 08: Meridian.r

This eighth foray into the otherworld is helmed by another resident of the UK’s North - Sheffield based Meridian.r. Curator of the excellent Cycle podcast - formally an event series bringing some top tier deep techno talent to an intimate warehouse in the Steel City - it is currently a series of mixes that shines a light on the northern adjacent left-field electronics scene.

No stranger to helming the decks himself, having been pushing the deep grooves at the likes of the iconic Groundwork and Magnetic North as well as his own events, we had the fine selections of Meridian.r on showcase at one of our recent monthly gatherings - wandering through a delightful garden of sounds that fit very well with our own tastes here at Portal.

Another entry into the series composed entirely on a pair of 1210s, Meridian.r’s mix weaves from the depths of ambient oceans through dub techno infused breaks and chuggers, the energy building tacitly until equilibrium is found in a heady concoction of hypnotic techno that rides the interplay between drive and groove in style. What Lies Beyond 08: Meridian.r

Tresor Records announces the first-ever reissue of Drexciya’s 'Fusion Flats' 12” vinyl, including remixes from Detroit’s Octave One, Kaotic Spatial Rhythms and 043 Chaos. 

Originally released in the wake of Drexciya’s seminal 1999 Tresor debut album 'Neptune’s Lair', this release marks its long-awaited return and first appearance on digital platforms. The remastered edition contains the original extended version of Fusion Flats and features new artwork by Detroit-based contemporary artist Matthew Angelo Harrison, whose reimagined covers continue to shape the Drexciya reissue series. 

25 years later, Fusion Flats returns to the constellation of Drexciya’s Tresor works, connecting their debut full-length to further explorations that continue to inspire generations.

The 46th episode is dedicated to Ąnis “I Swear I'm Not Delusional” (LP), released via our sub-label Gars Records on the 7th of November 2025. In the first hour, Mantas T., one of the label’s curatorial voices, kicks things off with a short interview with the albums author, and later delivers hist latest digs DJ set. The second hour is hosted by Ąnis, the album master himself.

Ąnis is a Lithuanian producer and DJ working in the space between broken rhythms and atmospheric weight. His tracks blur the line between club tools and introspective pieces - raw, textured, and unpolished in the best way.

The debut album “I Swear I’m Not Delusional” builds from late-night sketches into fully formed pressure systems. Ambient passages fall into break-driven grooves, each track shifting like a mood swing. It's rooted in tension, repetition, and space - think the grit and movement of early Skee Mask filtered through a more personal, less polished lens. Tracks like “Mountain People” carry warmth without needing to explain themselves, while others feel like they were made at 3am with no lights on.
