Five years after the original Acid Rain record, Philadelphia-based artist/producer Savan DePaul began 2021 with its sequel, an incredible record of being black, autistic and non-binary in the United States in the 21st century. Tiergarten is finally putting out a physical edition of Acid Rain II, along with a bonus disc of extra material from the project, featuring guest appearances from an all-star cast of DIY heroes.

Savan DePaul described Acid Rain II thusly:

"My fourth studio album is here five years to the day after the first Acid Rain record dropped. The changes in myself and in the world that surrounds me between 2016 and 2021 are stark. Acid Rain II’s existence is partially a celebration of coming this far in life, but more importantly a confrontation of the frightening world I’ve inherited as an autistic adult as well as the dissection of my teenage beliefs. Acid rain to me back then was simply a consequence of straying away from some divine essentialist vision of society. Acid rain to me today symbolizes a self-inflicted rot, a paranoia that exists as a product of the reactionary. Corrosive breath dripping from the maw of an imperial dragon, a process that can be analyzed and conquered. Dull-toothed centrism and deference to authority give way to revolutionary fervor and surgical self-crit. Appreciation for art becomes a showcase in its wonders. Thus, the connections between this album and its predecessor are deliberate - down to the similar length, numbers of freestyles & instrumental cuts, and the numerous lyrical callbacks.

What you will hear is the culmination of my first major artistic journey. This queer emcee finally finishes their first molt and stands ready for the rain, raincoat equipped."

Born in the belly of a whale, discovered by the Kool-Aid man. Kansas bred, NYC based DIY mainstays Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk return with their latest full length "Burritos".

Burritos is the fourth in a line of unique and ever evolving/devolving sets of music on this label. It’s also the most perfectly synthesized and coherent example of the different “eras” of BBDDM to date. The hazy acoustic guitar strum strum under a sea of chill inducing vocal harmonies, the urgent sandy pop hits bursting at the seams with beautiful blankets of guitar and echoey noise, the dark basement insect sound atmospherics with cracked guitars and percussive crackles and pings. Burritos is also more laid bare and and honest in its delivery, forgoing the harsher aspects of past releases and leaving more room for the moments of true harmony (and the real moments of harmonic disharmony, too) that have always existed in their music. Another personal favorite.

Although rhythmic and dance floor worthy, this track’s primary form takes on the immersion of a Transcendental Meditation. With a driving mantra present throughout, it works through different pockets of your mind; surfacing, making sense of and setting free buried thoughts, while always returning to the propulsive sedation of this motif.

Since debuting modestly in 2014 under the alias Kaboko, Lazy Pluto has juggled a diverse array of inspirations, including early-’80s funk and electro, art rock, raw and classicist house, and Dubstep, while putting a fresh spin on the forms to decayed, disorienting effect.

“Ambient music is something that can be used as a tool, I’ll often use ambient music for meditative purposes, you can create such an interesting emotional sensation with this genre, it’s beautiful and relatively unexplored.”
