Feel That Beat

I recently came across this recording from exactly 20 years ago, recorded at my parents' house in the attic where the first Makam music was born. This live set was performed on 2 MC909’s. I have never released this recording, but as I work on new and old Makam material and continue to enjoy this memory from the past, I wanted to share it with you.

Shoal – Ular EP [space•lab]

Raytek  returns to Sungate with Alphabet City, a four-track release of lean, percussive techno rooted in American tradition and built for utility.

"Lights Above" opens with tightly programmed toms and dry, disciplined groove. It moves with intent, holding tension without overreaching. "Alphabet City" strips things back even further. Sharp drum work, subtle distortion, and a loop-driven structure that keeps the pressure steady. "Loisaida" leans into rhythm. Every hit is measured, every sound functional. No excess, just forward motion. "Familiar Place" closes with dubbed out elements and a deeper realm. Still direct, still floor-oriented, but with a touch more space around the edges.

Clean, efficient, and unrelenting. Alphabet City is pure drum science from a producer who knows exactly where to cut.

After a turbulent summer,  i finally made it to give my recordings of the summer season a listen. I loved the whole vibe of this cute @dieletztewiese gathering . And for me playing at the REFLEKTOR Stage and especially during daytime, felt a bit more gloomy but still very tribal, shake-your-asses-vibe. Get ready for a more daytime, but still very straight-forward Techno set.

I love all the tracks on this mix, but I’m choosing “Relax A Little” by Code Talkers (Chris Fortier 40oz Remix) because she was a little bitch to mix—but very, very worth it. There are these unexpected spooky chime stabs with gorgeous delay that completely change the tone of the track. Plus, there’s a mischievous vocal element—I imagine the character behind it as the sonic equivalent of Aubrey Plaza giving side-eye.

For over a decade, Pascal Hetzel has been a steady presence in Berlin's large electronic music community. He developed a knack for long free flowing hardware jam sessions, that traversed the whole spectrum of electronic dance music from dark, industrial-tinged techno to classic motor city electro and italo disco-appreciating euphoria. In addition to his work as one half of CYRK, Pascal Hetzel continues to make a name for himself as a solo artist. His sound is deeply influenced by Detroit techno’s rich legacy. His first release on Juan Atkins’ groundbreaking Metroplex label that got released in June 2025, marks another milestone in his career. It’s his first solo release since his EP on another Detroit-based label: Interdimensional Transmissions’ sub-label Eye Teeth and his solo-album on the Belgian label Arkham Audio. Rest assured, there is more to come, both with CYRK and as a solo artist.
