Oya Faya

Odete works between the fields of writing, music, performance and visual arts - her work is explicitly autobiographic, making clear the border between the personal and politics. She describes her music as a sensorial theory for a weary girlhood - a ghost warrior that becomes visible through mixing. Through transitioning. Failure, silence, brokenness, and emptiness as the basis of a queer dramaturgy of track making. She’s currently interested in paleontology and archaeology as paranoid ways of re-imagining history. She’s developing work on secret societies and the inquisition and won the ReXform award for performance art from Boca Bienal and MAAT (PT).

To celebrate Grid 2nd anniversary, we gathered together thirteen earth-shattering tracks from the bass scene’s most promising creators, all aimed to move you in the most primordial way. Evoking images of vast landscapes and deep underground catacombs.

This compilation takes the listener deep into the earth with twisted percussion workouts from the likes of Jabes, Piezo, Ronan and Sister Zo… and back into the light with serene compositions from E-unity, Tammo Hesselink and A Psychic Yes, whilst Jay Duncan, Basile3 y Clara!, Jonny From Space, Flaty, Seekersinternational, and blu-e join the dots with their genre-defying creations.

As was the case with Grid’s previous compilations 'Improvisations' and 'Da Capo Al Coda', the label once again puts its stamp on a moment in the underground by collecting together productions of the highest quality that push the boundaries but undeniably make you want to move.

The roar of the engines ignites the atmosphere of the garage. The metallic clinks blend with the deep rumble of the bass, creating a mechanical symphony that awakens the dormant assembly line. A technician, wrecnh in hand, is busy solving an issue with a faulty hose. She inspects every corner of the engine, from the recently drained oil filter to the perfectly intact cylinder head.
Another mechanic is about to check the clutch. He engages the 3rd gear with precision, while the rhythms infiltrate the workshop. The radio station broadcasts catchy beats, a fusion of scrapyard club and broken noise, forming a sonic canvas that envelops the space.
The sound of percusion guides the movements of the mechanic, revealing the nuances of each action. Post-pop covers and remixes intertwine, creating an unexpected soundtrack for this mechanical inspection session, accompanying the rotations of the wheels during three drifts.
"Troisième Vitesse" is a unique fusion between the world of Garage 83-C and the unrestrained creativity of club music. The metallic noises converse with the sonic experiments, creating an immersive experience where mechanics and electronic sequences come together.
