In exploring 21st-century Russian culture since the Soviet Union's dissolution, one confronts a complex evolution marked by significant change and uncertainty. The period saw Russia grappling with defining itself amidst global influences, particularly from the West, which reshaped its cultural landscape.

From the 2000s onward, Russian culture increasingly leaned towards Westernization, influencing everything from fashion to entertainment and business practices. This mimicry, initially seen as a path to modernity, raised concerns about authenticity and identity loss, as Russia risked diluting its unique heritage.

Amidst this cultural assimilation, figures like Pasha Technique and Pasha Buttechno emerged as influential voices. Pasha Technique, celebrated for his lyrical prowess in rap and hip-hop, fused linguistic skill with social commentary, resonating deeply with a disillusioned generation. Meanwhile, Pasha Buttechno pushed boundaries in electronic music, blending techno with ambient and industrial sounds, asserting a Russian voice in a genre dominated by the West.

Despite differing styles, both embody authenticity and challenge societal norms, reflecting a broader cultural shift towards self-expression in Russia. Their journeys underscore the tension between global influence and local identity, shaping contemporary Russian cultural discourse.

Ultimately, figures like Technique and Buttechno serve as cultural touchstones, inspiring dialogue and redefining Russian cultural expression in a globalized world, illuminating pathways towards a nuanced understanding of Russia's place on the world stage.

She masked it as a need to experiment and try different things, but deep down she couldn't find what really made her happy. And until she did she'd constantly be in a state of flux...

Lisbon's Magic Carpet take a different direction for their next release. Rather than focusing on contemporary cosmic sounds, for their eighth release they take a trip back in time to the mid-90s to unearth some forgotten gems from Tribal Italia producer DJ Fary. The label bosses got in touch with him in the hopes of reissuing two timeless cuts that, until now, were fetching eye-watering prices on Discogs. Stunned at what the music was going for, DJ Fary agreed to hand over the DATs of his original work so that a new discerning audience could connect with his cosmic, breaks-laced material, without paying a fortune.

Disciple of the god Apollo, Terpsichore was the Muse of the dance, and it was known to be the most enigmatic of the nine Greek muses.

She was the mother of the sirens, and she would lure sailors to shipwreck on their island with their music and hypnotic, beautiful singing.

Terpsichore has been invoked as a metaphor for rhythm and ordered movement in the universe.

The planets orbit the sun and the sun, with other stars, orbits the center of the Milky Way galaxy. The planets go through the Milankovitch cycles in which their orbits around the sun adjust in very regular, periodic, or rhythmic, ways.

Terpsichore’s influence goes beyond just the humane, as It can also be seen in the observable universe.

She is now the Muse not just of human dance but also the cosmic dance in which the whole universe participates.

After some time of laying in the dark, the Warsaw-based Syntetyk label and club night series emits waves yet again with their very first cassette release by various friends from the local and global underground. Tape starts with a pathos ambient track by Mchy i Porosty, followed by a desert night drive dub by Rapha. The A side continues with a wavy melodic thumper by Olivia, accompanied by a nostalgic club diver by Czech maestro Exhausted Modern and a punkish fast paced hymn done by the Colombian prodigy - Filmmaker. The B side opens with Dogpatrol’s broken jungle track and carries on with Astma’s industrial dub-driven tune. Album slowly comes to a close with a nasty distorted wave by Dyktando, dystopian radiation emitter by Chino and ends with Mala Herba’s folk inspired epic ambient drone.

This new EP features reworks from carefully selected artists such as SHE Spells Doom, efemme, Sinistarr, Nathan Fake, Shanx and themselves as Hrdvsiovsivosvsiosvin. All remixers offer their very own version of the original track taken from Hrdvsion’s critically acclaimed second album "Where Did You Just Go?", released in 2010 on Wagon Repair.
